I’m Cathy Brown. I am now working for the Sunshine Travel Service in Changsha. I have just come back from Taiwan, the biggest island of China. It is in the Pacific Ocean(太平洋) to the east of Fujian.
Last week, I took a group of French holiday-makers for a week’s trip to Taiwan. We traveled all around the island. There are a lot of places of interest. My favorite is Sun Moon Lake. You may ask why people call it so. If you fly high up over the lake and look down from your plane, you will find the answer yourself. In the middle of this lake, there is a small island that is called Pearl Island because it looks like a pearl. We have always been interested in the moon. 2, 000 years ago, people already knew it moves around the earth and where it would be in the sky at different times of the year. At that time, everything about the moon was learned by watching it carefully in the sky.
When scientists could use telescopes to study the moon more closely, their ideas began to change. They could see the moon was made of rocks. The workers who brought the girl to the orphanage(孤儿院) knew little about her. The street where they found her had been her home for many years. Her parents were unknown. They left her long ago.
