Good evening and welcome to World Views. Earlier in the day, we spoke to three different people about family traditions. Here’s what they said.
① Christmas presents
One of our traditions is to do with Christmas presents. Most people open their presents in the morning, but we open ours in the late afternoon after Christmas lunch. It’s really nice to do so because opening the presents in the morning makes the rest of the day, you know, it’s boring. Well, that’s what we think.
② Birthday cakes
One tradition we have is to do with birthdays, all our birthday cakes have to be carrot cakes. My dad has to make the cake. He even has to make the cake for his own birthday! Perhaps it’s because my mum doesn’t like other tastes cakes. And the funny thing is, we never have carrot cakes at any other time-only birthdays.
③ Special day
We had a tradition in our family for the last day of the summer holidays. The day before we had to go back to school, mum and dad would always take us out for the day. In the morning, we’d get up early and go for a long walk. Next, we’d go for lunch in our favorite restaurant. Then, to the cinema to see a film. Finally, home, where we’d play games. It made going back to school so much better.In the first family, when do they open the Christmas presents?

A fish that lives in America can live out of water for months at a time, similar to how animals got used to land millions of years ago, a new study shows.
The Mangrove Rivulets, a kind of little fish, lives in small pools of water. When their living place dries up, they live on the land, said Scott Taylor, a researcher in Florida.
The fish can grow as large as three inches. They group together and breathe air through their skin before they can find water again.
The new scientific discovery came during a trip.
“We were travelling for fun. and one day I kicked over a log (圆木) and the fish came out.” Taylor told reporters by telephone. He said he would make his study on the fish known to the public in an American magazine early next year.
In lab tests, Taylor said he found the fish can live up to 66 days out of water without eating.
Some other fish can live out of water for a short period of time. The walking catfish found in Southeast Asia can stay on land for hours at a time, while lungfish (肺鱼) found in Australia, Africa and South America can live out of water, but only in a not active (活波的) way. But no other known fish can be out of water as long as the Mangrove Rivulets and keep active, according to Patricia Wright, a biologist at a Canadian University.
More studies of the fish may tell how animals changed over time.

Peter was a potter (制陶工). He had a wife and two fine sons. One night, his older son got a stomachache. At first, Peter and his wife thought the boy just got a bad cold, so they didn’t take it . What on earth (究竟) did he do to make you become such a special person?’ Ernie sat quietly and smiled for a few . Then he said, “When I was a child, Al came into my room every night, gave me a kiss and said, ‘I love you, son.’ ”
