My class will put on a short play in English at the end of the year. Yesterday our English teacher gave us copies of the play.
"Choose a character in the play whom you'd like to be," she told us. "This afternoon learn a few lines of this part for homework. Then tomorrow you can say those lines in front of the class. I'll decide who play each part."
I wanted to have one of the bigger parts in the play, so I choose the part of the king . He has a lot of lines to say. I learned them by heart.
This morning in our English lesson we had to say our lines. I acted the part of the king. When I said my lines, I put a lot of expression into my acting. I thought I acted really well.
Everyone in the class read a part and then the teacher would decide who would play each part .
Many of the students in my class couldn't act at all. They couldn't even read without making lots of mistakes. I was sure that I would get a big part in the play.
However, the teacher gave me the part of a soldier. He has only one line. It is ,"Yes, sir!"
I was very disappointed. At the end of the lesson I went up to her and asked her why I had such a small part.
"You put too much expression in your acting," she said. "Good acting is not big acting . It is acting the audience can believe in.”
I think I know what she means. What did the boy want to do in the play?

These days, cars are designed using computers. Let’s look at how a new car is created.
First, several designers talk about the new car and any good ideas that they have. Then they sit down at their computers and draw many sketches. The best two or three drawings are chosen and then more detailed(细节的,详情的) drawings of cars are developed on the computer. You can change the size, shape or color of any part on the computer to see how the car would look and then (73 ) you can choose the best design.
Both the inside and the (71) ________of the car have to be designed. Part of the inside of the car is built so that the designers can sit in it. They can feel if there is enough room inside and if they can reach everything. Then some cars are built—there are more than 15 000 parts of a car to test.
(74) When everything is safe, the cars are made in the factory. Again, computers are used to make sure that all the parts are ready as they are needed. (72)The factory usually stays open all through the night so that the car production never stops.Fill in the missing word:

When I was growing up, I had an old neighbor, Dr. Gibbs. He didn’t look like any doctor I’d ever known. He never invited us to play in his yard, but he was a very kind person.
When Dr. Gibbs wasn’t saving lives, he was planting trees. He owned a large field and wanted to make it a forest.
The good doctor had some interesting ideas about planting trees. He never watered his new trees. Once I asked why. He said that watering plants spoiled them, and that if you watered them, each baby tree would grow weaker and weaker, so you had to make things difficult for them and pick out the weaker trees early on.
He talked about how watering trees made for shallow(浅的)roots, and how trees that weren’t watered had to grow deep roots in search of water under the earth by themselves. Deep roots were very important.
So he never watered his trees. He’d planted an oak and, instead of watering it every morning, he’d beat it with a rolled-up newspaper. I asked him why he did that, and he said it was to get the tree’s attention.
Dr. Gibbs died several years after I left home. Every now and then, I walked by his house and looked at the trees that I watched him plant about twenty-five years ago. They’re very big and strong now. I planted some trees a few years back and carried water to them for whole summer.
After two years of caring too much, whenever a cold wind blows in, they shake a lot.
Every night before I go to bed, I check on my two sons. Mostly I pray(祈祷)that their lives will be easy. But lately I’ve been thinking that it’s time to change my prayer. I know my children are going to face difficulties. There’s always cold wind blowing somewhere, so what we need to do is to pray for roots that reach deep into the brave heart, so when the rains fall and the winds blow, we could face it strongly and won’t be beaten down.We know from the passage the doctor .

What does it feel like to break a bone (骨头)? It’s different for everyone, but the pain is often sharp (严重). If the break is small, however, the person may not feel much pain at all. If you think that you or someone else has broken a bone, the most important things to do are to stay calm, make the hurt person comfortable, and call the doctor. Do not move the injured body part since movement could make it worse.
To treat the break, the doctor will need to take an X-ray. This gives the doctor the information he or she needs to set (接上) the bone: to put it back to its normal place. If the bone is large or it is broken in more than one place, the doctor may need to use metal pins (钢钉) to set it. After the bone has been set, the next step is usually putting on a cast, the special, hard thing that will keep the bone in place for a month or two.
Your bones are excellent at healing themselves. Broken bones will produce many new cells (细胞) and tiny blood vessels (血脉). These cover both ends of the broken part, and close up the break until the bone is as whole and strong as before.Which of the following is the best title for the passage?

The building is shaking. A woman with a baby in her arms is trying to open the door, but fails. Finding no way, she rushes into her bedroom and there they survive the earthquake.
In a factory building, as the workshop floor swings under the terrible shaking, workers run for safety. Some hide(隐藏) under the machines and survive , but others who try to run outside are killed by the falling ceilings.
These scenes, played by actors and actresses, are from a film of science education《Making a Split Second Decision》 shown in 1998 on China Central TV in memory of Tangshan Earthquake.
By studying actual cases in the earthquake areas and scientific experiments, experts(专家)find that buildings remain untouched for the first 12 seconds of an earthquake.
In this short time, one has the best chance of surviving an earthquake by staying near the inside walls, in bedrooms and under beds, experts concluded in the film. “Earthquakes seem to catch the lives of those who run,” said many survivors in the earthquake areas, describing how their friends were killed on the doorways or along the stair steps as they tried to get out of the building.
Their advice was proved in the film, “Take a hiding-place where you are rather than run, unless you are sure you can reach a safe open place in ten seconds.”The word “survive” appears in the passage several times. It probably means in Chinese.
