Dear editor,
I live in a beautiful city. Many visitors come to my city every year because there are so many colorful peacocks (孔雀) here.
The peacocks mostly live on the grassland of Dongfeng Square. Visitors usually throw food to them, but they don’t think about at all whether the food is good or not. Some of the peacocks became ill, and some even died, eating the bad food given by visitors.
I’m sure most of the visitors who throw food to the peacocks really like the bird, but they don’t realize that they may be doing them harm. Visitors should be told that what they have done is harmful to the birds, and this kind of thing must be stopped.
Perhaps we can build some small shops beside Dongfeng Square to sell peacock food. For us every person, it is our duty to give more love to these beautiful birds to look after them carefully.
Yours,
Wang YangThe letter will be sent to ________________.

Do you know what school life is like in Singapore? In Singapore, a class only lasts half an hour, but there are no rests between classes. The students only have a 30-minute tea break after 3 or 4 classes.
They do not do eye exercises. Yao Suyu, a Singaporean student said our eye exercise were new to her. “I’d like to introduce them to our school,” she said. “They’re very useful.”
In Singapore school ends at 1:30p.m. But students join other clubs after school, such as dancing clubs and singing clubs. Yao said she joined the dancing club twice a week and it lasted from 1: 50 to 5:30 p.m.
Its population includes Chinese, Indians, Malays and Westerners. But there is no school for any one of the groups. The students in Yao’s school are Chinese, Indians and Malays. “The Indian students take Indian language classes when we study Chinese,” said Yao, “but if an Indian student is interested in Chinese, he ore she can study it, too.”
In Singaporean schools, teachers teach in English. It’s the official(官方的)language in Singapore. Singaporean students have to take different courses after school. Like most Singaporean students, Yao takes other courses in Chinese, such as math and English.判断正误(T,F):A class lasts an hour in Singaporean schools.

Have you ever had an embarrassing experience? Last week we asked readers to tell us about embarrassing experiences. We received thousands of letters! Here is a selection.
Tony:
My most embarrassing experience happened when I had just left university. I had just started teaching in a Liverpool middle school. One morning my alarm clock didn’t ring. I woke up at half past eight and school began at nine. I quickly washed, dressed, jumped into my car and rushed to school. When I arrived, the students had already gone into class. I didn’t go to the office, but went straight into class. After two or three minutes the students began laughing, and I couldn’t understand why! Suddenly I looked down and understood. I had put on one black shoe and one brown shoe!

Then we decided to take a walk along the street. The street was very busy and we started holding hands. Suddenly my wife saw a dress that she liked in a shop window, and stopped. There are many things we need to know that we do not learn at school. For example, if we want to use our money wisely(智慧地), we need to shop carefully. We need to know how to compare the prices of the thing in different shops. We need to be able to compare the quality of different brands(品牌). We need to know how to make a choice(选择) when we shop.

Some of these choices are small. For example, will I take an apple for lunch or a pear? Will I go to school by bus or on foot? Will I wear the red T-shirt or the blue one to the movies? Other choices are more important. For example, will I eat healthy food for lunch or will I eat junk food because it is nicer? Will I work hard in all my classes or will I only work hard in the classes I enjoy? We make choices like this every day.
We have to realize that the choices we make can affect(影响) the rest of our lives. Just as importantly, our choices can also affect other people. The next time you decide to waste time in class, play a joke on someone or talk loudly at the movies, think about this: Who else does your choice affect? This passage mainly tells us that it’s important to _____________.
