It’s not easy to be a scientist’s son. Everybody expects you to be special or perfect.
Well, to be honest, I often dream about being some kind of hero or doing something special—like saving a child from a burning building or discovering a new star. I was daydreaming at school one morning when my teacher said there would be a Mother’s Day writing competition for the whole school “I hope we have a winner right here in my class.”
When I got home, I started to think about what to write. “My mother is a scientist.” N0, I wouldn’t start like that. That was the way others saw her. How did I see my mother? Hmm, I saw her sitting with me in the dark when I had a terrible dream. I remembered how she hugged me for hours when my dog Spotty was killed by a car. Yes, these were the things I was going to write. To me, she wasn’t just a world—famous scientist. She was my mom.
My parents and I went to school Thursday night. The third prize was announced(宣布) and it was not me. The second prize was announced. It was me!
I went up to the stage and read what I had written, “My mother’s son”. When I finished, the people stood up and cheered. Tears were running down my mother’s face. I saw my father blowing his nose. He cleared his throat and put his hand on my shoulder, “Son, this is the proudest moment of my life.’’
It was the proudest moment of my life, too. Maybe I’ll never be a great hero or win a Nobel Prize, but it was enough just to be my mother’s son.

Shanghai-born novelist Lu Shi’e wrote a fantasy novel called New China in 1910. In the book he described a dream where trains were running underground, an iron bridge crossed the Huangpu River and Shanghai hosted a successful World Exposition in the underdeveloped Pudong area at that time. The blueprint(蓝图) described in the novel became real exactly after 100 years.
On May 1, 2010, the World Exposition, with 158 years of history, drew back its curtain from Shanghai. According to a source at the Organizing Committee (组织委员会)of the World Exposition 2010 Shanghai, it is expected to attract more than 70 million visitors, making it the most popular exposition in history. It is also the first time the World Exposition is held in a developing country.

It grew into a commercial(商业的) city thanks to its prosperous(繁荣的) port and, over the course of 100 years, Shanghai became among the first Chinese cities to open its doors to the world. Camping in your backyard is full of fun, whatever how old you are. Follow these instructions and you'll have a night and you’ll never forget!
Put up your tent.
Depending on the number of family members and guests, you may need more than one tent. Tell your friends to bring their tents if needed. Follow the instructions or check out the articles on how to put up a tent on the Internet.
Prepare your bedding.
You’ll want your guests to be able to relax in comfort. Put something soft to lie on the floor: A blow-up air mattress(床垫) or thick comforters may work well. Fill the tent with soft toys and blankets. Lightweight sleeping bags or cotton blankets are needed, especially when the temperatures drop greatly at night.
Prepare a seating area.
If you have a picnic table, that would work best. If not, set up a few chairs and a small table to set out drinks and food. A simple choice is to lay out a blanket in the sun, so that your friends can eat and talk. Be sure the grass isn’t wet!
Make memories.
If you plan some activities, you will be sure to relax yourself. You're camping in the backyard, so it's time to make the most of being outdoors.
Have a camera nearby to take silly photos of you, your family members and your friends.
Remember to take a photo of all the camps smiling and laughing. Be sure to make copies for everyone!

Do you want to know how and why a fall leaf changes color? We first have to understand what leaves are and what they do.
Leaves are the world’s food factories. Plants take water from the ground through their roots and take CO2 from the air. Plants use sunlight to turn water and CO2 into glucose(葡萄糖), a kind of sugar. Plants use it as food for energy and growing.
A chemical called “chlorophyll” in the leaves gives plants their green colour. As summer ends and autumn comes, the days get shorter and shorter, and trees “know” to begin getting ready for winter.
During winter, there is not enough sunlight or water. Trees rest during this time and live on the food they store during the summer. They begin to shut down their food-making factories. As the green chlorophyll disappears from the leaves, we begin to see yellow and orange leaves.
The bright reds and purples we see in leaves are made mostly in autumn. In some trees, like maples(枫树), sunlight and the cool nights of autumn turn the glucose in the leaves into a red colour. And we can enjoy the beautiful red leaves during autumn.Which should be in the box?

What about money or prayer(祈祷)?They can't, either.
Then what else? Don't be worried. You can always find an answer to a problem in your life, when you change your way of looking at things or doing things,or your attitude. Yes, attitude is the word. See for yourself: attitude:1+20+20+9+20+2l+4+5="100," a full mark.
