Grades at school are often a top worry for kids. if you worry most about grades, ask yourself these questions:

● Do I have a good place to do my homework?
● Have I tried different ways of studying?
If your worry is about a fight you had with your friend, you might write down all the things you could do-write a note to him or her, invite him or her to watch a basketball game, say sorry to him or her and so on. Once you have a list of things you could do, you can choose one thing that could get your friend back.

It’s time for school! But on May 14th, 170 students at Duncanville High School in Texas, US, were told to go back home.
Why? Because they were wearing the wrong clothes to school.
Schools in the US don’t always ask students to wear uniforms. But they have dress codes(着装要求). For example, Duncanville High School tells students to wear belts, shirts without logos(标识).
Schools’ most-hated clothes are different.
In 2011, the saggy(松垮的) trousers law was passed in Florida. It stops students from wearing trousers that show body parts.
Now, “the favourite new target(目标) of the school dress code” is leggings(紧身裤), reported the Associated Press. Some schools don’t allow leggings. Other schools ask students to wear a shirt or a skirt over leggings.
Some students complain(抱怨) that schools are going too far. But schools say dress codes help protect students’ safety and make sure they grow up with good taste.
“We want to teach them that they must meet the expectations(期望) not only here in school, but also outside school,” said Andre Smith. What happened to 170 students at Duncanville High School on May 14th?

Imagine the situation. You are driving along a desert or on a mountain. You have no idea where you are. You passed the last house two hours ago. Then your car breaks down. It is night and it is cold. You have no mobile phone. What do you do? Well, next time take a GPS with you. This invention may be able to help you. It is a device(装置) which uses satellites (卫星) to find the user’s position(位置). It can find your position to within 20 metres. A GPS cannot start your car, but at least you will know where you are.
GPS, which means Global Positioning System, is a small radio receiver. It looks like a mobile phone. You can hold it in your hand, or put in your pocket. It is sometimes put into a watch or a telephone. We also find GPS devices in cars, planes or boats. Some of these devices have electronic maps, so you know where you are. For example, in a city they can tell you the name of the street.
There are three parts to the Global Positioning System. The first part is the receiver. You can hold it in your hand, or have it fixed into your car, plane, etc. The second part is a group of satellites orbiting the Earth. The receiver contacts at least four of the satellites and calculates(计算) its position. The third part of the system is a network of ground stations. They are all over the world. They control the satellites and make sure they are working well.
Some people think that in the future the GPS will be as common as the mobile phone. They are becoming cheaper and more and more accurate(精确的). There are also new uses for the GPS. Dear Liz,
My stay in Thailand has certainly been the experience of my life.
Life is busy and exciting.Bangkok is just like any other big city with a population of 10 million and heavy traffic.I'm very lucky because my host family is in a nice quiet area outside the city. There are Mr. and Mrs. Phairat, their son Sanan, who is 18, the daughter Chinda, who is 16, and Grandpa and Grandma.
I go to an international school with Sanan and Chinda. The school teaches about 70 percent in English, and 30 percent in Thai. I've learned some spoken language, but Thai writing is very difficult. The cooking lesson is my favourite.I'm learning all about Thai food and culture. People don’t use chopsticks here, but spoons and forks. When I come back,I'm going to cook you a real Thai meal.
Last weekend we visited some temples. We also drove to Pattaya beach near Bangkok.I thought it was great, but Sanan and Chinda say that next month they’re taking me to Phuket Island, where the beaches are even more beautiful. The month after next, we’re going to travel to Mr. Phairat’s hometown in the north of Thailand. The Phairats own land there, and they have two elephants.I’m going to ride those elephants — and even wash them. Sanan and Chinda say it’s really fun.
I'm amazed by everything in this country, especially by the elephants.Elephants are an important part of Thai culture and way of life. They have been a traditional symbol of Thailand for many years in times of war and peace. In the seventh century,a Thai king trained 20,000 elephants for battle.
I’ll tell you all about my Thai boxing(拳击)lessons next time I write.
