These days, more and more students in the UK are talking a"gap year"between their graduation from school and their university studies. This means they can take a year off to do something else, before they start their studies.
For most students, spending time in foreign countries is the favorite activity﹣﹣﹣and Australia is the favorite place to go.
Many parents, teachers and business people agree that travelling can teach important values.
"After a year of travelling,I left I'd grown up.I had learnt the importance of relationships with people,on all kinds of levels."
There are many companies around the world that welcome these students on their projects﹣﹣﹣helping people in poorer countries,or even in your home country.Although you don't get paid for your work, this kind of work can teach important skills﹣﹣﹣decision making and finding answers to problems, for example﹣﹣﹣that will help many students in a job one day.
Finally, getting some knowledge and experience in an area you hope to study or work in one day will always be very useful.
If several university graduates are applying(申请)for the same job,gar year work experience allows you to say."I've already had some experience of this kind of work."And that can get your job.

Almost everyone has dropped some food on the floor and still wanted to eat it.If someone saw you drop it, he or she might have shouted, “ 5-second rule!” This so–called rule says food is OK to eat if you pick it up in five seconds or less. But is that true?
Professor Anthony Hilton from Ashton University, UK, tested the rule with his students. They found that food dropped for five seconds is less likely to contain bacteria(细菌) than if it sits there for longer.
For the study, Hilton and his students tested a lot of foods——bread, pasta, cookies and candy—to see how much bacteria they had when they made contact with the floor. They allowed the food to lie on the different types of flooring—carpet(地毯), laminate (复合地板) and tile(瓷砖) — for three seconds to 30 seconds.
Not surprisingly, the longer the food was on the floor, the more bacteria it had.And the type of floor where the dropped food landed had an effect.Bacteria are least likely to transfer(转移) from carpet, while they are most likely to transfer laminate or tiled surface after more than five seconds.
The study also found that the wetter the food, the more likely it was to pick up bacteria.Although most people are happy to follow the 5-second rule, eating food dropped on the floor still carries an infection(感染) risk.“It very much depends on which bacteria are on the floor at the time.” Hilton told Forbes. What is the “5-second rule’ mean?
A.People often shout at someone when they drop food on the floor. |

One day a man found a cocoon(蚕) of a butterfly in the forest. He sat there for several hours and watched the butterfly.Suddenly, a small opening appeared and the butterfly made its great effort(努力) to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no further.(那个蛹好象忘记了它该怎样做, 也好象停止了挣扎).
So the man decided to help the butterfly. He cut off the remaining bit of the cocoon so that the butterfly would come out easily. But to his surprise, the butterfly got a heavy body and very small wings when it came out of the cocoon.
The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that the body would grow smaller at any moment and the wings would become larger and be able to fly.But neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling(爬) around with a heavy body and small wings. It was never able to fly.
The man was in his kindness, but he didn’t understand the nature rules. Before the butterfly came out of the cocoon, fluid(液体) from its body must be forced into its wings, and then would be ready for flying. It must have a hard struggle(拼搏) to get through the small opening to get its freedom from the cocoon.
