A man was sitting in the park watching the ducks on the pond, when a woman came near him.She had a white dog with her.

She sat down on a chair, took out of a magazine and began to read.

The dog was sitting between her and the man.

After it had been sitting quietly for about ten minutes, the dog turned and looked up at the man.

" Excuse me," the dog whispered(低语)," but you look like a kind man. Please buy me from this awful woman."

The man could hardly believe his ears. A dog was whispering to him, in English.

" She is so meanto me," the dog continued. "She never pets me or plays with me. She doesn't feed me properly and she often beats me when she is unhappy, which is most of the time."

The man was amazed to hear the dog say all this.He was even more surprised when the dog added, "And I am really a very good dog. I'm quite famous, too. I won a medal in the last war and was twice wounded in action. I've saved three children﹣two from drowning and one from a fire."

The man decided that he would try to buy the dog from the woman. He would pay a lot of money if necessary. The dog would soon earn tens of thousands of dollars on television. It would be the world's first talking dog.

" Excuse me," he said to the woman," but I love your little dog. Will you sell him to me?"

"I'll be pleased to sell him, " the woman said. " You can have him for ten dollars.

" Ten dollars!" the man said. " Only ten dollars? Why so little? "

 " Because," the woman said, " he' s a trouble﹣ making liar(说谎者)."

On Thanksgiving Day, a teacher asked her class of first-graders to draw a picture of something they were thankful for. She thought that these children from poor families actually had little to be thankful for. And she found most of them drawing pictures of flowers or tables with food. The teacher was very surprised to see the picture Douglas handed in. It’s a hand, a simple hand.
But whose hand? The class were very interested in the strange picture. “I think it must be the hand of God that bring us food,” said one child, “A farmer,” said another, “Because he grows beautiful flowers.” Finally when the others were at work, the teacher went over Douglas’ desk and asked whose hand it was. “It’s your hand, Teacher,” she said quietly and shyly.
She remembered that she had often taken Douglas, a dirty lonely child, by the hand while having a class break. She often did that with the children. But it meant so much to Douglas. We can’t live without love and we know what love is, but we don’t say only humans know what love is. Yes, it’s impossible for animals to do some things because of their physical body. However, sometimes some of them might be able to show us the love that we have forgotten on our “busy road”, just like the following story.
A dog, was knocked down by a car and died in the middle of the road. Later, another dog ran beside the body of the dead dog and he tried to wake his friend up using his legs. When his effort to wake up his friend failed, he tried to push his friend to the roadside. But his friend was too heavy for him to push.
Though traffic was busy and dangerous, he wouldn’t want to go away from his friend, just standing beside his friend shouting and crying.
A lot of people saw this story and were very touched (感动的). Even a dog can show his loyalty (忠诚) and love to his friend, what can our humans do?

One night a man came to our house and told me, “There is a family with eight children. They have nothing to eat for days.”
I took some food and went. When I finally came to the family, I saw the ugly face of those little children by hunger. There was no sorrow (悲伤) or sadness in their faces, just the deep pain of hunger.
I gave the rice to the mother. She divided(分) it into two, and went out, carry half the rice with her. When she came back, I asked her, “Where did you go?” She gave me this simple answer, “To my neighbours----they are also hungry.”
I was not surprised that she gave----because poor people are unselfish(无私的). But I was surprised that she knew they were hungry. As a rule, when we are in trouble, we think more about ourselves, and have no time for others.
