Here is some advice to help you become good at a foreign language.

1.Spend the time!

The most important factor(要素)is how much time you spend with the language. The more time you spend, the faster you will learn. This doesn't mean sitting in class looking out of the windows, nor listening to other students who don't speak well. This means spending time on what you are learning﹣﹣and enjoying it.

2. ______?

Listen wherever you are. Read what you are listening to. Listen to and read things that you like, things that you can mostly understand, or even partly understand. If you keep listening and reading, you will get used to the language. One hour of listening or reading is more effective(有效的)than many hours of class time.

3.Focus on (关注)words and phrases!

Build up your vocabulary you'll need lots. Learn these words and phrases through your listening and reading. Read online, use online dictionaries, and make your own vocabulary lists for review. Soon you will see your new words and phrases elsewhere. Gradually(逐渐地),you will be able to use them.

4.Take responsibility for(对…负责任)your own learning!

Choose passages that you are interesting to you, that you want to listen to and read.Find the words and phrases that you need to understand your listening and reading.Discover the language by yourself, like a child growing up. Take when you feel like it.

5.Relax and enjoy yourself!

Do not worry about what you can't remember, or can't yet understand, or can't yet say. You are listening and improving. The language will gradually became clearer in your brain, but this will happen at a time that you cannot control.

On 22nd January, 2007, Dave Cornthwaite from the UK became the first person to skateboard across Australia. He made a new world record, by skating a total of 5,823 kilometers. Jack Smith, the previous (前任的) champion, had skated a total of 4,830 kilometers across the US in 2003. Dave’s journey started in Perth and ended in Brisbane traveling about 60 kilometers a day. It took him five months and 13 pairs of shoes. He had great physical pain and he got really sore feet.
If Dave hadn’t believed in making his dreams come true, none of this would have happened. Dave left his job two weeks after he had bought a skateboard and decided to go on a journey. He wanted this journey to be about something more than him, so he created an association that would raise money for charities. “If people follow my journey and donations, then I’m doing many people a lot of good,” said Dave. This journey had plenty of challenges. He traveled across the Australian desert (沙漠) where temperatures reached 48℃ in the day and 0℃ at night. He had a serious accident in Adelaide when he jumped on a piece of metal that cut through his foot.
Dave helped raise more than £50,000 for children’s charities, wrote a book and encouraged others to follow in his footsteps. I wish we had more people like him leading the way!

It's important to develop the healthy habits in your daily life. The following will help you become healthier and keep perfect shape.
Eat properly. A healthy diet is very important for everybody. Breakfast is the most important meal in a day. Doctors suggest that students’ breakfast should include fruit, eggs, milk, rice or noodles, because these can offer them necessary energy, help them listen carefully in class and keep them healthy. Eat enough for lunch and little for supper. But remember that too much sugar is bad for your teeth and blood. You shouldn't have too many sweet snacks and desserts in your diet, even though such food tastes delicious.
Keep off germs(病菌). Daily tooth cleaning reduces the amount of germs which will spread diseases. Germs in the mouth are likely to enter the blood and cause illness, even heart disease. Even if you’ re not sick, always remember to cough or sneeze into your arms instead of your hands because hands can spread germs to others when you touch something else. Besides, washing hands is necessary after going to the toilet or before having a meal. And you'd better rub both hands while washing them.
Exercise regularly. Regular exercise can improve your moods and balance. Wha’s more, it’s good for bones. There are many forms of exercise: walking or running for about 30 minutes a day playing ball games twice or three times a week, swimming or dancing often. You can choose your favorite to practise regularly. You will not only feel energetic but also think better after doing exercise.
Stay connected. Having regular communication with friends is the key to reducing stress. And sharing happiness and sadness, exchanging information with others can also help improve memory. Having a friend or a circle of friends can help you feel good.

A 15-year-old student who invented a flashlight(手电筒) getting power from the holder's body heat is going home today from California with a big prize and a chance to do further research.
Ann Makosinski was the only Canadian among the four winners at Google's international science competition. Thousands of young scientists from around the world took part in the competition.
Winning the science and technology competition was "a surprise". Ann said, "I think it will have a great influence on my future."
Ann thanked her family for encouraging her interest in science and said that her first toy was a box of transistors(晶体管).
Ann's prize includes $ 25,000 and a "once in a-lifetime expericnce" from Google for her Hollow Flashlight, which has no moving parts or batteries.
The idea for the invention came from seeing unwanted batteries and her friend's experience. When Ann visited a friend in the Philippines, she saw the friend couldn't study when it became dark because there was no electricity or light. She saw the need for a flashlight that has no batteries - Hollow Flashlight.
In her project, Ann wrote "I made two flashlights that do not use any batteries or harmful materials. They do not create any noise and will always work. The flashlight needs at least a 5℃ temperature difference between the holder's body and the environment around to produce light."
A video of Ann explaining how she creatcd the flashlight has been watched more than 1.4 million times on the Internet.
Though Ann was successful, she has not made a decision about her career path. Ann hopes that she can find a way to join her love of film and science together.
The four winners were chosen from 15 final competitors from eight countries. The competition attracted thousands of students in 120 countries.
