Many people might think that if they had more money, then they would be happier in life. For example, people might look at what others have, like expensive clothes or nice cars, and wish they could have the same. But the things that money can buy can not bring happiness to a person for long.

But is that really true? Studies have found that money can, in fact, make people happier. Instead, it's giving money to others that makes people happy. It could be buying a present for a friend or a family member. It could be buying a homeless person food to eat. It could be giving money to a person in need. Just think about the last time you used your own money to do something for someone else. How did you feel? Whether it is a small or large amount of money, people feel happier when they give. This is because making someone else happy makes the giver happy, too.

This idea of connecting your happiness to the happiness of others is described as ubuntu in an African language. There is even a story about a man visiting Africa who asked some kids to race to a nearby tree. The first child to touch the tree would get a sweet treat. Surprisingly all the children held hands and ran together. They all touched the tree at the same time. The man asked why they had done this. The children simply said they could only enjoy eating the treat if everyone had one.

In Britain you’re allowed to drive a car when you’re seventeen. You have to get a special two-year driving license before you can start. When you’re learning, someone with a full license always has to be in the car with you because you aren’t allowed to drive the car on the road alone. You don’t have to go to a driving school --- a friend can teach you. The person with you isn’t allowed to take money for the lesson unless he’s got a teacher’s license.
Before you’re allowed to have a full license, you have to take a driving test. You can take a test in your own car, but it has to be fit for the road. In the test you have to drive round for about half an hour and then answer a few questions. If you don’t pass the test, you’re allowed to take it again a few weeks later if you want to. In 1970 a woman passed her fortieth test after 212 driving lessons! When you’ve passed your test, you don’t have to take it again, and you’re allowed to go on driving as long as you like. Britain’s oldest driver was a man who drove in 1974 at the age of 100.
Before 1904 everyone was allowed to drive, even children. Then from 1904 car drivers had to have a license. But they didn’t have to take a test until 1935. On the early days of car driving, before 1878, cars weren’t allowed to go faster than four miles an hour, and someone had to lead the car with a red flag.
In the driving test, one _______________________.

A.mustn’t drive his car, even though the car is fit for the road
B.is usually asked to drive on roads for some time
C.has to be examined(考查) only in car driving skills
D.must drive around for more than an hour

When can I take the driving test again if I don’t pass it?

A.a few years later
B.right after the first test
C.a few weeks later
D.never

Which of the following is NOT true?

A.There is no limit (限制)to the age of an old man who drives a car.
B.One can take a driving test again and again until he passes it.
C.There was a speed limit to cars before 1878.
D.A car driver didn’t have to get a limit license until 1935.

The best title for the passage is _____________.

Very few people enjoy exams. I don’t, either. And although I tell myself not to worry about them, I always do! So I’m not surprised that my students worry about them, too, even though they usually don’t need to. Because they are afraid of failing. However, since it is hard not to worry at all, we all must try not to worry too much. Why? Because worrying makes exams worse! How to do this?
Ask the teacher about how to revise and about exam skills—how to work when you are in the exam. Good students don’t wait until the week before an exam. They study all through the year. It is not possible to learn everything at the last minute. So don’t leave it till then.
If you start planning and working for each exam early and you make sure that you understand what you’re studying, then, when it is over, you’ll be able to say, “What a good exam that was!”
Take a short rest during your time of work and revision. If your mind is tired, it won’t remember well. Work at the time when you know you’ll work at your best.
If you’re studying in the evening, don’t go straight to bed afterwards. Your mind will still be “going round and round”—thinking too much. Do something else, maybe walk or get exercise. Choose something that will relax you, and make you think of other things.
If you feel bad, talk to someone about your worries. But don’t be too relaxed! Some stress over exams makes you work hard for them.
How does the writer feel about exams?

A.Excited. B.Bored. C.Worried. D.Surprised.

Why are the students afraid of exams?

A.Because they are afraid of failing.
B.Because they want to get full marks.
C.Because exams are usually hard.
D.Because their teachers will be angry at their bad grades.

Which is NOT mentioned in the passage?

A.Good students don’t wait until the week before an exam.
B.Start planning and working for each exam early.
C.If you don’t know how to work for an exam, ask the teacher about it.
D.You should sleep well before the exam.

According to the passage, if you feel bad, you’d better _____.

A.take a short rest
B.tell someone about your worries
C.walk or get exercise
D.keep busy working and forget your worries
