In your spare time, do you help your parents with chores(杂活)around the house? Can you cook for your family?
In order to stress(强调)the importance of hard﹣working spirit education(劳动教育)among students of different ages, the Communist Party of China Central Committee(中共中央)recently released(发布)a guideline(指导纲要).
The guideline calls for students to respect labor work. Students should learn basic life skills and form good working habits through such education.
The government has been trying to stress the importance of hard﹣working spirit education. But this has been overlooked(忽视)in recent years. Many teenagers do not value the importance of working hard and aren't interested in doing so.
According to a study of nearly 3,000 students that was done by Ningbo Evening News in March, only 22% of students help with everyday chores around the house.
Schools and families play an important role in teaching students about the value of working hard, the guideline says.
Primary and middle schools should provide students with hard﹣working spirit classes every week, according to the guideline. Schools can also hold activities to give students real﹣world work experience. For example, schools can teach children how to plant trees on Tree﹣Planting Day.
As children's first teachers, parents should also encourage children to learn how to do chores at home.Students should master one or two life skills every year. These skills can include cooking, washing their own clothes and tidying their rooms.

When do you think of a forest, what do you see? Just trees? Or do you see many other things, such as singing birds, colorful plants and wild flowers?
The forest is a whole world of its own. It is full of many different living things(生物). But even though they are all different, they have one thing in common: they all need each other in order to live on .The trees feed the forest “people” by making food in their leaves; by using sunlight to join water and minerals(矿物) from the soil and air. Their deep network of roots joins the soil together and stops it from dying out, making it possible for living things to live in it.
Human beings(人类) are like the living things in the forest. We need one another in order to live. We need the farmers to grow our food, railroad and truck drivers to bring it to our shops and clerks(售货员) to sell it to us. We need people to prepare our food and cook it and others to take our waste things away. Then, of course, we need doctors, nurses, government leaders, mailmen, telephone operators, and many others.
We also need other human beings in another way. We need people for friendship, to talk over our problems, exchange ideas. Think how lonely and unhappy you would be if you lived all alone.
Life is a matter of giving and taking. We need to help other people as much as we need other people to help us. Think what a good feeling you have when you have done something for someone else. You know, being a volunteer is so great!

Dear Ralph,
I am a student of Grade Nine. I consider myself a beautiful and friendly girl. Male students say I am easy to get along with, so they are always after me. They call me and send messages from time to time. But I am fed up with them. I just want to learn as much as I can in this golden time. The problem is that I do not know how to refuse or say "no" to them. After all, they are my friends. What should I do? Please give me some helpful suggestions.
Aries
Dear Aries,
Don' t answer any call or message. When you want to study, simply turn off your mobile phone. That way you won't be bothered. When boys call, they will get a power-off (关机) message. After you finish studying, turn the phone back on and reply to people who have sent messages while you were studying. Accept calls only if you feel ready for them. A good friend can understand if you miss his too many calls or text messages, limit the number of people to whom you give your phone number. If you're not sure how well you like someone, first leave just your dormitory (宿舍) phone. Then that person can't bother you all the time. You are right that you need friends, so you shouldn't completely escape from them. I believe you can deal with this problem well and be happy every day.
Ralph

Long long ago, there was a swan(天鹅) with gold feathers. She lived in a lake. A woman lived in a small house near the lake with her two daughters. They were very poor. They worked hard all year round, but still, they lived a hard life and sometimes they even didn’t have enough money to buy food.
The swan was sad to see that. She said to herself, “I’ll give one of my feathers to them each day, then they can live a happy life with the money selling my feathers.” That evening, she flew to the poor woman’s house and left a golden feather on the table without saying anything. From then on , the swan came every day and gave them a feather. The woman was very happy because their life was much better than before.
But day after day, the woman became greedy(贪婪的). She said to her daughters, “The swan may fly away one day. If so, we will be poor again. We should take all her feathers when she comes next time.”
“Oh no, Mom!” cried the daughters. “This will hurt the swan. She helps us a lot!” But the mother wouldn’t listen. When the swan came as usual, the mother caught her and took all her feathers. But suddenly, the golden feathers changed into chicken feathers.
Then, the golden swan said, “Poor Mother, I came to help you, but you wanted to kill me. Now, I am leaving and will never come back. Never be greedy!” With these words, the swan flew away.

Someday in the future we may not need to have money in our pockets. Is life easier when people don’t need to carry any currency at all? Is money heavy to carry? Is it safe to carry money? Maybe in the future each of us will have only one small plastic credit card. We will use it to buy all the things we now buy with money. We will not need money to pay for things.
Of course we may still have some of the same problems with cards we now have with money. Sometimes we lose money. Maybe we will lose the cards. Maybe someone will take the card. Someone may even make a card that looks like our card. Since we can’t buy anything without our cards, the credit card may be no better than currency.
Is there something easier to use than credit card? Each of us has a thumbprint(拇指纹). No two thumbprints are the same. Maybe someday the government will keep people’s thumbprints with a number. When you want to buy something you will put your thumb on a machine or a computer. Each store or business will have one. Everyone’s thumbprint will be in the computers. It will be very difficult to lose our thumbprints! It will be difficult for someone to steal it or to make one like it.
