A long time ago, a father was old and sick. He did not have much time to live, and he wanted(1) (give) his sons a good lesson before he died.
Recently, he noticed that his sons(2) (fight) among themselves and seemed unable to agree on anything. The old man feared what would happen after his(3) (die). He was afraid that his sons would begin to argue."They will disagree about everything," He thought."Soon they (4) (be) enemies, each going his own direction."
He called his sons together in his room."Bring(5) (I) a bundle (束) of stick," he asked his servant (仆人),Soon enough, a thick bundle of sticks arrived, tied (6) (close) together.
One by one, he gave the bundle to each son, and asked him to break the bundle. One son after another pulled and twisted (拧) with all of his strength (力量),(7) the sticks would not break.
The old man smiled and ordered his servant to untie the bundle of sticks. He handed one stick to each son and said,"Now break the stick."
Of course, the single stick(8) (break) in two easily. The old father looked at his sons."Do you understand this lesson?" he asked.
Each son, being inteligent,(9) (understand) the meaning at once.Alone,it is easy for one of them to be harmed. But together, they are strong and can't be harmed even(10) great torces(势力).
That's the meaning of the sticking together. In unity, there is great strength.
Long ago, when the world was young, a spider was given a pot (罐子) containing all the wisdom (智慧) of the world. Each day, he reached into the pot and learned(1) new.
But Spider would not(2) . He wanted to keep all the wisdom to(3) .
Spider made a plan.He began to climb a tall tree."I will hide the wisdom pot way up high,"he said."I will be the(4) one in the world."
As he climbed, he had a lot of trouble. The pot kept(5) stuck in the branches (树枝).
From(6) ,Spider's son watched. He called out,"(7) the pot to your back,Father. That way, it will be easier to climb."
Spider got mad.He thought,"My young son is wiser than I.I have the wisdom pot,yet he is wiser."Spider got very mad and threw the pot to the ground, breaking it(8) many pieces.Everyone(9)
a piece of wisdom.
And that is(10) many people know different things. But no one has all the wisdom in the world.

Boyan Slat has one huge goal. It's a goal that could be good for people and a(1) all over the world. Amazingly, it looks like he's going to m(2) his goal.
When he was 16, Dutch engineering student Slat was on vacation in Greece, and he started to think about all the rubbish that is p(3) onto beaches by water. The oceans around the world are all of plastic ﹣millions of tons of plastic. Unfortunately, plastic doesn't just disappear. It takes c(4) to break down (分解).
The p(5) situation of the oceans is bad and worrying and Slat wanted to do something to change it. So he made it a personal goal to clean up the rubbish in the world's oceans.
Slat started with an idea for an unusual m(6) to "catch" the plastic floating(漂浮)in the water using the natural energy of the ocean. He left school in 2013 to begin work on his project The Ocean Cleanup. Soon, the project r(7) a lot of attention.
A year later,he was leading a team of 100 scientists and engineers working on the invention.Slat needed money for this,so he started asking people to d(8) to his project online and raised over ﹩ 2 million!
Soon after,Slat was named a "Champion of the Earth" by the United Nations for his meaningful and v(9) work. It' s the most important title the UN gives to people helping the environment. The Ocean Cleanup also won several awards (奖项) for having one of the best inventions of 2015. But the d(10) goes on for Slat. He hopes that the oceans will be free of plastic in about twenty or thirty years.
Have you ever been near an animal you were afraid of? How close have you been to a dangerous snake? Well, Tony Kepler raises killer snakes for a living and he loves his(1) . He has been working with them since he was a little boy and he's not(2) at all.
Tony's father has been a snake handler (驯蛇师) for twenty years and he has taught his son a lot about them. Now Tony is(3) to make money from snakes. In order to(4) the venom(毒液),he has to find rattlesnakes in the western part of the United States. He sends the venom to a(5) where they make it into something called "anti﹣venin."Anti﹣venin is what they give people(6) they have been bitten (咬) by a poisonous (有毒的) snake. This anti﹣venin is really helpful in (7) the person who has been bitten. He has been making his living this way for five years and feels(8) .
Tony's dad has handled nearly 1,000 snakes in his lifetime. And hundreds of people go to him to(9) how to deal with snakes. Tony's dad has been willing to (10) everything about how to hold, how to feed and how to get venom from snakes. But not everyone(11) get used to the idea of picking up a snake. Many people heard(12) stories about snakes when they were children and have been afraid of them ever since. Tony has been trying to educate people about the positive things snakes do. For one thing, they help(13) the rat and mouse population.Snakes are also very clean and (14) and they seldom trouble humans.
Tony' s job is very different from any other job I've heard of, but it is a really(15) one.Without venom collectors, many people would be in real danger and some would die.
