Maria Keller is from Minneapolis, Minnesota. When she was 8years old, she already loved reading. (1)She also noticed that some of her classmates didn't read as much as she did. When she asked her mother why that could be, her mother said that they might not be able to afford books. Maria had never thought of this. She could not believe that some children might not have bedtime stories read to them. She decided to change this.
With her mother's help, Maria created Read Indeed.Read Indeed is an organization which collects and gives out books to children in need for free. Maria set the goal to collect and give out one million books by the time she was 18. She tried every means to achieve it. (2)As a result,it didn't take long to reach that goal!
Today, at the age of 14 , she has collected over one million books and has sent them to many states and countries around the world. She says, "I cannot live without books. As I continue my work, I have learned that millions of kids are in need of books. So I just can't give up, even after reaching my original (最初的) goal."
She has recently set a new goal: To give books to kids in need in every state in the United States, and every country in the world.

I packed, and was ready to leave for my two﹣day trip.I had been busy with my work.I had
made(73)p for the trip for the last few days, and I expected to get(74)r for several days.
As I got into the car to leave,my mind flew to my kids.
How to keep in touch with your kids when you're busy or far away is a dilemma(两难的问
题) many fathers have.Men like to focus special attention on one thing for a long (75)p ,but this can lead to trouble.Moving from work to family isn't always an easy thing. And if you don't (76)s your kids that you're thinking about them, they may think that you don't care.
As I started down the road,I suddenly stopped to(77)t back to my house and
wrote a short message on a(78)c of cards to each of my children.I put each in a
"secret"place where I knew they'd find it.
When I called the next night,they both said(79)e ,"Daddy,I got your card.When
did you do that?"
I was moved when I heard these words. What I had never thought was that a small thing had
a big influence on my kids.It proved(证明) that they were in my heart. And distance (距离)couldn't(80)s them from their father. To my satisfaction, they feel"love"of their father.
This(81)v experience encouraged me to continue to do the small things to be a responsible father.
As fathers get much busier and have to work longer hours, they usually pay (82)l
attention to the small things.Don't miss the good chances to let your kids see how important they are.
Take a moment to do a small thing for your kids.It won't (83)s small to them.
