THE Little Mermaid, a fairy tale by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen is well known. It tells of a young mermaid who falls in love with a prince. There is a popular belief among parents that schools are no longer interested in spelling. No school I have taught in has ignored spelling or considered it unimportant as a basic skill.
