Dear Estelle, Saturday, 5th June
I hope you’ re well and not working too hard! I’ ve been revising for my exams now for the last two weeks. That’ s why I haven’ t written for such a long time.
Since the beginning of this year we’ ve been doing a project called ’ World Class’. Have you heard of it.’? Not everyone in the class could take part, but luckily I could. The school chooses a ’twin school’ (姊妹学校) in a different area of the world. Our head teacher chose a school in Uganda. They gave us someone to write to from that school. For three months, I’ve written to a girl called Louisa, who is the same age as me.
It’ s been more interesting to hear about her life. She’ s told me all about her school and described her daily (日常的) life. I can’ t believe that her School doesn’ t. have any electricity. She goes to ’school from eight o’ clock in the morning until six. O’clock. in the evening. I can’ t believe how lucky we are here! She’ s also told me that she often can’ t go to school because she has to look after her baby brother and sister. She’s tried to teach me some of her language and it’ s really difficult.
I love it because it’ s the first time I’ ve thought about what life must be like somewhere else. I can’ t believe people miss classes here when everything is so easy for us. I think more people should help out with projects like this. At the weekend we’ re going to have a sports day to help raise money to send to the school. Perhaps one day I’ll be able to go to Uganda and meet Louisa myself--who knows?

Dear Rita, How are you? Last time you asked me about the greatest invention in my eyes. I have also discussed it with my best friends, Anna, Sue and Kris. We have different ideas. Anna thinks it is the high﹣speed railway; Sue, the shared bike; Kris, the online shopping; and I prefer the Internet. The Internet is just like a net, and it connects us with the world. In the past, it was nearly impossible for people to communicate immediately with people in other countries. They had to spend a long time to reach their destinations (目的地), and not everyone could do that. But the Internet has made the impossible possible. Now we can communicate with foreigners online. The Internet also helps us know what is happening around the world, and has made our life and work easier. In recent years, shopping online is very popular. We can just stay at home and buy what we need online. We can also do online office work and distance education. Besides, we can watch movies, listen to music and even play games to relax ourselves on the Internet. So, I think that the Internet is one of the greatest inventions. It has changed our world! Although there are still many problems with the Internet, they will be solved in the near future. As a student we should make good use of the Internet! Yours, Martin |

The train made a lot of noise as it came to a stop at the station. Martha waited for a while until her father held her hand. They walked onto the train together. Her mother and brother walked behind them.
This was the first train ride for Martha and her brother Brian. They would take the train to visit their grandparents. They usually went there by car. But today, Mum and Dad wanted to try a different way.
They walked to the middle of the train. They found some seats and sat down. A few minutes later, the train began to move.
Martha and Brian felt a little nervous, but their parents said they would enjoy the ride. Dad said he liked the train ride because he didn't need to drive all the time. Mum added that she could talk to her two children face to face instead of turning around.
When the children their parent's words, they felt relaxed.
"The train isn't as noisy as I thought t would be" said Martha," and l can sand up and walk around. I believe I can see everything through the windows.""The train really goes fast," said Brian," I like that best of all. If we get on the train in the morning, we can see grandparents before lunch. I can't wait to enjoy their apple pie!"

Where I'm from, we're pretty relaxed(1) time. We don't like to rush around. So we don't mind if people are a little late sometimes. If you tell a friend you're going to their house for dinner, its OK if you arrive a bit late. We like to enjoy our time slowly. We value the time we spend with our family and friends in our everyday lives. We often just drop by our friend's homes if we have time. We don't usually have to make plans to meet our friends. When we see each other, it's polite for boys to slake hands and for girls to kiss each other on the side of the face. We often just walk around the town center, seeing as many of our friends as we can!
(Marc LeBlanc, from Lausanne, Switzerland)
In Switzerland, it's very important to be on time. We are the capital of clocks and watches, after all! If someone invites you to meet him or her at noon, then you're expected to be there at noon. If you're even 15minutes late,(3)你的朋友可能会发疯,So I make an effort to be on time when I meet my friends. I always leave the house early to avoid heavy traffic because I think it's impolite to keep others(2) .Also, we never visit a friend's house without calling first We almost always make plans to see friends. We usually plan to do some interesting things, or go somewhere together.
