Dear Rita, How are you? Last time you asked me about the greatest invention in my eyes. I have also discussed it with my best friends, Anna, Sue and Kris. We have different ideas. Anna thinks it is the high﹣speed railway; Sue, the shared bike; Kris, the online shopping; and I prefer the Internet. The Internet is just like a net, and it connects us with the world. In the past, it was nearly impossible for people to communicate immediately with people in other countries. They had to spend a long time to reach their destinations (目的地), and not everyone could do that. But the Internet has made the impossible possible. Now we can communicate with foreigners online. The Internet also helps us know what is happening around the world, and has made our life and work easier. In recent years, shopping online is very popular. We can just stay at home and buy what we need online. We can also do online office work and distance education. Besides, we can watch movies, listen to music and even play games to relax ourselves on the Internet. So, I think that the Internet is one of the greatest inventions. It has changed our world! Although there are still many problems with the Internet, they will be solved in the near future. As a student we should make good use of the Internet! Yours, Martin |

A man went into a restaurant and sat down at one of the tables.
A waiter went up to him and gave him the menu.
The man read it carefully, then ordered(点餐) all the most expensive foods and began to enjoy himself.
Then a small boy came into the restaurant and sat at the man’s table.
The waiter came up and said to the man, “What would your little boy like, sir?”
“Oh, just an ice cream, ” the man told him. Then he said to the waiter, “I’m just going out to buy a newspaper.”
He left the restaurant. The waiter gave the boy an ice cream. The boy ate it, and then stood up and walked to the door.
The waiter ran to him.
“Excuse me,” he said, “but your father hasn’t come back and he hasn’t paid for his meal or for your ice cream.”
“I’m sorry,” The young boy said, “He’s not my father, I don’t know who he is.”
The waiter did not understand. “What do you mean?” he asked.
“The man came up to me in the street, ” the boy said. “He asked me if I liked ice cream. I told him I did. Then he told me to come into the restaurant at 2:00pm and sit down at his table. He said he’d give me some.”

When you are in Hong Kong, you must be very careful in the streets because the traffic drives on the left. It is different from that in other areas of China. If you are the first time to come to Hong Kong, you must look to the right side and then the left before you cross the street.
If the traffic lights are red, the traffic must stop. Then people on foot can cross the road carefully. But if the traffic lights are green, the traffic can go. People on foot mustn't cross.
When people go to or come from work in the morning and evening, the streets are very busy. Traffic is the most dangerous then, especially(尤其) for the children.

Each summer 200 teenagers and 50 adults live together for eight weeks as members of a special work group. Everyone works several hours each day. They do so not just to keep busy but to find meaning and enjoyment in work. Some teenagers work in the woods or on the farms near the village. Some learn to make things like tables and chairs and build houses. The adults teach them these skills.
There are several free hours each day. Weekends are free, too. During the free hours some of the teenagers learn phototaking or painting. Others sit around and talk or sing. Each teenager chooses his own way to spend his free time.
