The Making of a Surgeon
How does a doctor recognize the point in time when he is finally a “surgeon”? As my year as chief resident (进修医生) drew to a close, I asked myself this question 36 more than one occasion.

One day I was doing a big clean-up when I 36a knotted handkerchief with an old dark brown coin inside. I took one look and immediately 37 an unforgettable time.

On August 26, 1999, New York City was struck by a terrible rainstorm. The rain caused the streets to 36 and the subway system almost came to a stop.
