Americans are proud of their variety and individuality, yet they love and respect few things than a uniform, whether it is the uniform of a lift operator or the uniform of a five-star general. Among the arguments for uniforms, one of the first is that in the eyes of most people they look more professional than civilian clothes. . The television repairman who wears a uniform is likely to inspire more trust than one who appears in civilian clothes. Faith in the skill of a garage mechanic is increased by a uniform. What easier way is there for a nurse, a policeman, a hairdresser, or a waiter to lose professional identity than to step out of uniform?
. They save on other clothes. They save on laundry bills. They are often more comfortable and more lasting than civilian clothes.
Primary facts among the arguments against uniforms are their lack of variety and the loss of individuality experienced by people who must wear them. Though there are many types of uniforms, the wearer of any particular type is generally stuck with it, without change, until retirement..
. Though they are long-lasting, often their initial expense is greater than the cost of civilian clothes. Some uniforms are also expensive to maintain, requiring professional dry cleaning rather than the home laundering possible with many types of civilian clothes.

B.Why are uniforms so popular in the United States?
C.The importance of wearing a uniform is stated as follows.
D.People tend to expect higher quality from a man in uniform.

____. Their anger might be so strong that they lose control of their temper. They may act in ways unacceptable and hurtful. People may say that someone has trouble controlling their temper. _____.
Some kids might get so angry that they scream at their parents, break something, or even worse, hit their brothers or sisters. _____. However, it’s not OK for a kid to do any of those things. Kids don’t want to act in this way, but sometimes angry feelings can be hard to manage. So what to do?
Well, the good news is that kids don’t just have to keep making the same mistakes over and over again. _____ . Imagine your temper as a puppy inside you that needs some training. The puppy is not bad ---- it will probably turn out a great dog. It just needs to learn some rules because, right now, that puppy is causing some problems to you.

A.You can train you temper
B.You don’t want to cause trouble

Meet the magic folk
Throughout the ages and across the world, fairies(童话故事)have come alive in the stories, poems, and songs passed down from the old to the young. Some amazing stories about fairies have come to us from the British Isles.
Merrows are Irish fairy mermaids(美人鱼). The females are very gentle and beautiful with fishes’ tails. Merrows sometimes come onto land disguised(伪装)as small, white cattle or as beautiful women wearing bright red feather caps.
Leprechauns(矮妖)are fairies that appear as tiny old men. They like to be alone most of the time, making and mending shoes and keeping their pots of gold well hidden. If a human catches a leprechaun and asks for its gold, the leprechaun must hand it over. If the human looks away for even an instant, the leprechaun will joyfully disappear.
Brownies are hairy little men who do chores(杂事)in houses and on farms during the night. All they want as payment is food, and they get very angry if humans watch them do their work. If a brownie is given clothes as a present, he’ll disappear forever.
Selkies are seal fairies. Female selkies sometimes come to shore and take off their sealskins to play on the beach in human form. Like merrows, if a human finds a selkie’s sealskin, she can’t go back to the ocean. If she finds her sealskin, she happily returns to the sea, leaving her human husband and children…but she comes close to shore to watch over them from time to time.

A.Here are some of these fairies.
B.Most sailors at sea hope never to see a merrow.
C.But it is far trickier(狡猾的)than it looks!
D.A selkie is quiet and lovely, with dark hair and sad eyes.

E. Instead, she must obey(服从)the human who keeps it and usually marries him.
F. Perhaps this is because he rushes back to show off his new clothes to the others.
G. If a human steals this cap, a merrow can’t go back to the sea and must stay on land.
