I received a letter from a grandmother who told me about her four-year-old granddaughter Skylar. Ever since Skylar 31 of Disneyland from TV, she 32 her nickels and dimes (零钱) in a piggy bank in 33 of visiting there someday. Her parents 34 her with a trip when she was four, however, and didn't even 35 her to use her own money!
When Skylar returned. It was 36. She decided to buy presents with her 37. But she also learned from announcements on TV about a local 38 shelter called "The Road House". She 39 asked her mother what "homeless" meant and why those children 40 coats and warm clothes. She couldn't seem to get the homeless off her mind.
Her mother took her to the store to buy 41. Instead of buying for herself or her family, however, she 42 to purchase a warm coat, socks and gloves for a little girl in the 43 .She also wanted to buy a doll, but when she 44 she didn't have enough money, she left the doll 45 .
When Skylar got home, she chose one of her 46 dolls and put it into the box with the other items she bought that day. She could hardly wait for Christmas! Skylar was thinking about going to the shelter and giving her carefully 47 gifts to a homeless child. She was much filled with joy at 48 helping someone else.
"Perhaps it's good to have a beautiful mind, 49 an even greater gift is to have a beautiful heart," says Nobel Laureate John Hash. Young Skylar has a beautiful heart. It is one 50 , above all else, which makes beautiful people.

I recently overheard something that surprised me. I heard that people who win the lottery (彩票) are__21_for about 3 weeks. And then they go back to their__22__state of being before they won the money.I__23__that they would have been happy for a much longer time.
The reason for this is that__24__we try to change how we feel by using something outside of ourselves, like winning the lottery,or getting a new car or house,it never__25__.The resulting feelings of happiness are often fleeting (飞逝的).We cannot__26__them for very long.In some way,it may be a good thing. It reminds us that happiness really does come from within and is__27__to us at any moment.True happiness has__28__to do with what is happening outside;it is an inside job.Happiness is a__29__.
We can make the decision to be happy for one day, when we__30__in the morning, every morning. We can find something that brings us great __31__,like sitting outside in the garden under an old tree and__32__the birds sing,or watching the dog or cat play, and just__33__the moment. It is our__34__state and we need only allow it in.At any moment,we can__35__,take a deep breath, and remember who we really are,and why we came here, and that truly is to__36__joy and the aliveness of being.
“Happiness is like a butterfly which, when run after,is always __37__our reach, but,if you will sit down___38__,may fall upon you,” said Nathaniel Hawthorne,an American novelist. So,today,no matter what is going on in your own__39__,stop and take a few moments to breathe deeply and just__40__to be happy, whatever that means to you.

College is a big deal for American students as well as for Chinese students. During the college __41__, some parents become extremely worried. This may only __42__ the pressure.
Before I applied to the college, I told my parents I would get everything __43__ out. If I needed any help, I promised that I would ask them.
As it __44_ out, I had no problem putting everything together on my __45__, including my resume(履历) and a basic outline of my activities in high school. The __46__ part where I asked for my parents' advice was the essays. In writing and revising the essays, I needed feedback(反馈) from an audience. As my parents know me better than __47__ else, they were __48__for the job.
The essays are extremely important in college admissions. In a competitive pool of applicants, the test scores and activities, as well as the recommendations are all going to be very __49__. The essays are the one area in which students can make themselves stand __50__. Essays don't have to be big and complicated. I wrote three essays, all __51__ on small matters and using simple sentences. The admission officers have to read hundreds of essays a day; they are already __52__ of SAT vocabularies and long sentences. __53__, a straightforward writing style is refreshing to their eyes as well as their minds. Essays were the key to my success in the admission game. I just wrote about what I wanted to say, not what I thought the admission officers __54__ to hear.
In my main narrative-style __55__, I told the story of my American journey at the age of 14. During that time, I was not bogged down(陷入) by trying to fit into a new __56__; instead, I looked up to Mother Teresa for guidance and strength. I found my new __57__ and grew to love the name Teresa and the memories it held.
In my two minor essays, I __58__ the major events of my life, why I loved writing and why my dad is the person who has the greatest influence on me. Both provided details of my character. The essay about writing, which is titled, “I Shall Not Live in Vain” (__59__ by an Emily Dickinson poem), earned a lot of praise.
It is __60__ I really looked into my heart and thought deeply in order to reach my answers.

As we all know “ The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.” and “ 26 every successful man there is a woman.” Both these 27 mean the same things. Men rule the 28__ , but their wives rule them.

In the 1960s, the American women’s liberation 34 was started by women who don’t want to 35 behind successful men. They want to stand beside them, with the same 36__ for success. They don’t want to be told that certain jobs or 37__ are closed to them. They refused to work side by side with men who do the 38 work for higher pay.
In America, a liberation woman must be 39 of being a woman and have confidence in herself. If somebody says to her, “ You have come a long 40 , baby”, she will 41 and answer, “Not nearly as 42 as I am going to go, baby.”
On the other hand , this movement is quite 43 and many American women do not agree. 44__ it has already made some important 45__ in women’s lives.

Have you ever done something silly that made you feel so embarrassed(尴尬的)? Well, I had a really bad Saturday morning last week.
I went to town to do some shopping, and while I was walking through the park 31my way home, it began to rain. I quickly ran into a nearby phone box because I didn’t have an umbrella. It was raining hard and I decided to stay in the phone box 32it stopped.
A few minutes later, I saw a young man walk up to the phone box, wearing a yellow raincoat and holding a tool box. I didn’t want to go out into the rain, so I 33the phone and pretended I was talking to 34. I thought he would go away, 35he didn’t. He just waited in the heavy rain, watching me wave 36hands about and act as if I was deep in conversation.
37, the rain stopped after about ten minutes. “OK, Mum,”I said loudly into the phone, “I’ll see you later. Bye!”I put the phone down and went out of the phone box. “I’m sorry to keep you 38for so long.”I said to the man.
Oh,“I don’t want to use the 39.”he replied. “I’ve just come to repair it. It doesn’t work, you see.”
