When you have an idea, you draw it on paper, bring it to a store and see it turned into an object(物品) , what do you think? This is now possible with the help of 3D printers. Such ma-chines were once used just by universities(大学) and big companies, but now, stores with 3D printing services(服务)are appearing around the United States.
Bryan Jaycox and his wife opened The Build Shop LLC in Los Angeles two years ago. The Jaycoxs offer 3D printing classes and services for anyone who is interested.
"I think 3D printing is going to be huge. It's going to have a huge influence(影响) on society as a whole. " Says KiChong .Tran, one of the students in a recent class. He plans to open a 3D printing business in Cambodia(柬埔寨):
3D printing services are coming into American people's life. The UPS Store is a nationwide retailer(零售商)that provides copying and other services. The UPS Store recently put 3D printers in three of its independently-owned stores. Burke Jones owns one of the stores in San Diego.
"The need has been amazing. There has been a lot of interest from people. It's been much more than I would have thought of."
The UPS Store plans to add 3D printers in three more stores.
For $ 11, someone used a 3D printer to produce two small plastic(塑料) parts as part of a knuckle(指节)for a hand. He works for the company which is testing prosthesis(假肢). He says the same-day or next-day printing services will speed up testing of parts and get them to patients faster.
Staples, an American store, are selling 3D printers on its website for as low as about $ 1.300. As with any technology-experts expect the printing speed to increase and the price to go down.
Bryan Jaycox asks for $ 15 an hour to print an object. He also sets the price depending on the size of the object and up to $50 an hour for design and labor services.
Mr. Jaycox thinks that within five years, 3D printing technology(技术) could become more userfriendly. But KiChong Tran says even today's technology can make a difference in a developing country like Cambodia.
With 3D printing you can give them tools(工具) , so they are responsible(负责) more for their own development and they learn skills(技能)beyond just like learning English and becoming a tour guide or something like that. You can actually create things that give value to the world. "
He says it's not just Cambodia but anywhere where there is a 3D printer, it can turn a good idea into reality. What can 3D printers do according to the passage?

The police find most criminals(罪犯)because somebody tells them who the criminals are. They find other criminals by using science and their computers. When there is a bank robbery(抢劫),the police first look through their computers for the names of the bank robbers that they know about. Then they go and talk to any of these robbers who are not in prison(监狱).They ask them where they were when the robbery happened. If any of these people cannot give a good answer, the police will often use science to find out if one of them is the robber.
Many criminals leave something of themselves at the places of the crimes like a fingerprint or a hair.Or they take something away on their shoes or clothes, like dirt or animal hair.If they leave behind some of their blood or their hair or a piece of skin,it will have their DNA inside it.
Everyone’s DNA is different and their fingerprints are also different. So,if a criminal cuts himself during a robbery or leaves his hair,or even a small piece of skin, scientists can find out what his DNA is.The police can then ask the person they think is the robber to give them his hair or some blood and see if it has the same DNA.Many criminals are in prison today because of this kind of evidences.
根据上文内容判断正(T)误(F)
(1)Usually the police find criminals because they use their computers.
(2)The police do not usually ask criminals who are in prison about a crime because these criminals could not have done it.
(3)The most useful evidences that criminals leave at the places of their crimes are things with their DNA in them.
(4)Many criminals usually take something away only on their shoes after the crimes.
(5)The story is about a bank robbery.

I had hidden the long black bag in the garage for the past two days.Tonight,in the dark,I would finally take it away.If everything went OK,it would be done by morning. But I had to be sure no one,not even my wife, saw me.
It was more difficult to get away from the party than I expected.I said that the children were tired and needed to get to bed.It was partly true. But the main reason for leaving was that I wanted to complete my plan.
First I had to get the kids to sleep. That was never easy at any time and tonight it was even more difficult. The eldest one wanted to know why we left the party early.I told him 10:30 pm was not early. As usual,I read them a bedtime story, but I had to stop myself reading too quickly or they would learn my secret.
Silence finally came, and feeling like a thief in the night,I went out of the house and into the garage.Taking one end,I dragged the bag out from its hiding place and took it into the garden.I was worried that my neighbours might see me and call the police.
It was already eleven o’clock.By the light of the moon I started working, trying to make as little noise as possible. And that was not easy with a saw(锯子)and a hammer.
After much effort,my work was finally completed.I looked down at my watch. It was exactly 4:00 am.Then I went inside to have a shower and get a few hours of sleep. It wouldn’t be long now before the kids would rush into my room and wake me up to tell me about the new tree house Father Christmas had brought them this year. Why did the man feel nervous?
A.He left the party too late. |
B.He was afraid of the darkness. |

I had mixed feelings today, nervous, worried, happy, excited…My heart went down when Miss Chan, our head teacher, said that Matthew and Beth, two students from England, would spend three months with us!I was worried that I had to speak English so much! But at the end of the school day,I was happier than I thought:the morning with them today was more enjoyable than I expected.

We finished all the preparations 10 minutes earlier than expected, and then Beth and I talked for a while.Matthew sang several English songs and did some stand-up comedy(单人喜剧表演)at the party. We all praised him. When the bell rang to end the first school day, none of us wanted to leave.
