I am a professor of sports and exercise so I often deal with nervousness in my research with sports people. Actually, most people experience nervousness at some time or another.
If you are feeling anxious, my advice is to first find the cause or causes. Make s list of those things that are making you nervous and work out which ones you can do something about. Focus all of your efforts on managing the causes that you can control.
Most people cannot tell the difference between controllable(可控制的) and uncontrollable causes, so things they can’t control become a big reason for nervousness. Dealing with this is very important if people want to keep a healthy mind.
Simply try to accept the uncontrollable causes of nervousness. You might be worried about the weather on a big day, an accident or an attack on the train, or perhaps just things that other people are doing at work. The results may be very important but there is still no use worrying because you can’t control any of these things. Accept that you can’t control everything. Once you understand this, it becomes easier not to worry.
If a situation, such as swimming, is causing you to be anxious, try to face it as often as possible so that you can get used to it.
It can often help to think about yourself doing the thing that makes you nervous—then close your eyes and imagine it going well. Imagine how the flight or job interview is going to happen so that you can get used to it. This will help you understand that the thing you fear most is probably not going to happen.Who wrote this passage?

The First Lady’s Travel Journal: Touring the Forbidden City
March 21, 2014
After visiting the Beijing Normal School, Madame Peng took Sasha and Malia, my mother, and me to the Forbidden City, which is right in the heart of Beijing.
For more than 2,000 years (up until 1912), China was ruled by emperors who descended (传递)from many different dynasties, or families, who passed ruling positions on from generation to generation — and for nearly 500 years, the Forbidden City used as the emperor’s home.
Like the name suggests, the Forbidden City is large enough to be a city of its own — it includes nearly 1,000 buildings and nearly 10,000 rooms.
In 1925, the new Chinese government turned the Forbidden City into a museum so that visitors like us from all over the world can stroll (闲逛) through many of the beautiful rooms and outdoor spaces.
The Forbidden City is too large to fully experience in a single visit, but highlights include the following: The Hall of Union and Peace has almost 14,000 ornamental dragons. The Hall of Supreme Harmony is where the emperor(皇帝) watched birthday celebrations and coronation (加冕) ceremonies from his Dragon Throne. And then there are the Imperial Gardens, where you can walk along the paths and pavilions, admiring the beautiful rock arrangements, flowers and cypress (柏树) trees.
While we loved our visit to the Forbidden City, we only wish we had more time to see everything. But then again, I’m not sure there could ever be enough time to fully enjoy all of the art and history in this wonderful place. The writer visited The Forbidden City with _______.
A.her daughters |
B.her husband |
C.her mother |
D.her mother and two daughters |
The Forbidden City is a _______.

C.The first lady enjoyed all of the art and history in this wonderful place |

Years ago, I lived in a building in a town. There was another building across from mine, and it was only a few metres away. There lived a woman whom I had never met. I could see her sit by the window each afternoon, drinking or reading.
Several months later, I noticed her window was very dirty. Everything was not clear through the window. I wondered why the woman didn't wash her window.
One sunny morning, I decided to clean up my apartment, including washing my windows. Late in the afternoon when I finished the cleaning, I sat down for a rest by the window. What a surprise! The woman sitting by her window was clearly seen! Her window was clean! Suddenly, I realized I had made a mistake. I was watching her through my dirty window all the time!
That was quite an important lesson for me. Since then, whenever I wanted to judge (判断) someone, I asked myself first, "Am I looking at him through the dirty window of my heart? ”Then I try to clean the window of my own world so that I may see the world clearly. The writer lived in _______years ago.
A.a hotel | B.a village | C.a town | D.the countryside |
The woman often drank and read by the window _______.
A.in the morning | B.in the afternoon | C.in the evening | D.the whole day |
One sunny morning, the writer decided to do some_______.
A.Reading | B.Cleaning | C.Shopping | D.cooking |
The writer was surprised to find the woman's window was_______
A.Far | B.Broken | C.Clean | D.dirty |
From the passage(文章), we can learn _______.
A.we should judge ourselves before we judge others |
B.we should judge others through the dirty windows |
C.we should clean others' windows first |
D.we shouldn't clean the windows often |

From 8:30 pm to 9:30pm on Saturday, March 23rd, 2013, a great number of people around the world turned off the lights for Earth Hour. It is a bit like an environmental New Year, providing a chance to help care for our earth and make people around the world learn how important it is to do that.
What did you do for Earth Hour this year? Let’s share the Earth Hour stories.
Emma was on one of the mountains near the city and took photos of my city. It was great to watch the stars and the moon after a busy day that she could enjoy this relaxing moment.
Albert works as a waiter in a restaurant. Their restaurant was still open even for Earth Hour as they got lots of reservations(预定) that night. So they spent the hour working by candlelight. And guess what? Their customers loved that and promised to come for next Earth Hour.
Brandon turned off the main power to his house and went for a walk for Earth Hour. It was a little strange to walk in the dark, but it was only for one hour. Just think of what it must have been like before the invention of light bulb!
Mary invited her friends who know and support Earth Hour activities. They actually had a candlelight and they talked about the old happy days that they spent together in college.
