When I was in the 8th grade in Ohio, a girl named Helen in my class had a terrible accident. As she was to the bus in order not to miss it, she slipped on the ice and fell under the back wheels of the bus. She the accident but was paralyzed from the waist down. Over the years, I and didn’t think much about Helen after that. Three years ago, in Florida, my oldest son was hit by a car while riding his bike, a terrible brain injury. While I was looking after my son, a lady who said she was the hospital’s social worker called. It was a (an) trying day. I burst into tears for no reason and rang .
A short time 1ater, a beautiful woman, in a wheelchair, into my son’s room with a box of . After 16 years, I still Helen. She smiled, handed me the tissues and hugged me. I told her who I was, and after we both went through the shock of that, she began to tell me about since we last saw each other. She married, had children and got her degree so that she the path for those people who were less than her. She told me that if there was anything she could give me, it would be .
Looking at this wonderful, giving person, I felt . But I also felt the first hope I had since learning that my son was . From this person that I thought would have no of life, I learned that where there is life, there is hope. My son miraculously and we moved north, but I owe Helen that I can never repay.

Are you a top student in your school, or at least a top one in your class? If not, you may learn something from my story.
Growing up in a poor family with uneducated parents, I was not good at my study. But a teacher changed my life. Without her, I couldn’t have 36 so much in my later career. I can still remember the very important day that has 37 my whole life.
I did so 38 in math that you may not imagine that I even couldn’t count from “ONE” to “TEN”, when I was in Grade Three.
Then the39_ day came. My father was asked to come to school to 40_ with my teacher, Ms King. You can’t imagine how angry and41_ my father was when he heard about my “excellent achievement”. He42 at me:“since you can’t even count from ‘ONE ’to ‘TEN’, what are you able to be when you 43_ up? Now, tell me!”I was scared and 44_ and didn’t know what to say and tears came immediately into my eyes.
Then the most unforgettable time in my life came. “Maybe he can be a boxing refereeone day. That45 only needs him to count from ‘ONE’ to ‘NINE’, which may
46 him well.” Ms King looked into my eyes and firmly said.
Now, I am in my forties, and can you believe it that thanks to Ms King, I am really a well-known boxing47 of WBO(World Boxing Organization),and that I do need to count only from “ONE” to “NINE”? So are still worried about your poor grades at school? Remember there will always be a place waiting for you!

I take the train into work every morning from a train station near my house. I can get to the station quite 31 because there’s a short cut(捷径) to the station. But in the summer, it can get quite smelly because of all the 32 . So I always try to 33 through it. Today I was trying to do so as usual when something made me stop for a moment. I saw the most beautiful 34 by an old woman walking in front of me with the help of a white stick.
She was short and 35 and had white hair. She was walking 36 as each step took some effort. I hadn’t specially noticed her at first, until she stopped near a rubbish bin.
She slowly placed her walking stick 37 the rubbish bin. Then she leaned(倾斜) on it with her right hand. She bent down and reached for the rubbish. She clearly found it difficult and it took her a while. She 38 some rubbish with her left hand and slowly straightened herself up again. All the while she used the rubbish bin to 39 herself. She threw the rubbish inside the bin and then 40 walking. It all took her great effort.
There’s so much rubbish and no one ever does 41 about it. I was moved to see this old woman make such a great effort to keep even a small part of it clean! I haven’t been able to 42 thinking about that all day.
I want to follow her example. I’ve decided to pick up rubbish off the ground if I meet from now on. I hope people will do the same as I do.

Signs can sometimes be seen at the entrance of a house, expressing that a tramp(流浪汉) has passed. This special sign-language is frequently 36 by tramps to inform their37 whether the host of a certain house is friendly or unfriendly, and to38 them the trouble of making unnecessary calls.
Quite39 one day, I came across a real tramp. He was such a rare sight these days that I stood some distance away and watched him. He was dressed just as a tramp should be40 , old worn trousers, and a jacket many sizes too big for him. On his head there was a battered old hat and his boots were so old and worn; they were almost coming into 41 . But the man himself looked cheerful as if he had not been a 42in the world. He rubbed his nose with his forefinger,43a funny turn, laid a small parcel by the front gate, and began 44a sign made by a former caller. Although the sign was meaningless to me, it must have been 45 , for the tramp’s face lit up with46 . He entered the front gate confidently and rang the bell. When the door opened, I saw him 47 his hat but couldn’t hear his words. The48 was very short indeed, for no sooner had he spoken a few words than the door closed fiercely in his face. I felt49 for him as he walked 50 out of the house, But just as quickly, his face lit up again and he moved quickly towards the gate. There he stopped, looked at the sign, and 51 his head seriously as if he had made a bad mistake. 52 deeply into his pockets, he produced a piece of chalk, rubbed out the53 sign and made a new one in its place. He stared at it for a moment smiling to himself, then gathered his54 , pushed back his hat and began walking towards the next house at an unhurried55 , whistling as he went along.
