The moment happened 20 years ago but it was still fresh in my memory. I was a college freshman and had up most of the night before, laughing and talking with friends. Now just before my first of the day my eyelids(眼皮)were feeling heavier and heavier and my was drifting down to my desk to make my textbook a pillow. A few minutes’ nap(小睡)time before class wouldn’t , I thought.
BOOM! I lifted my head suddenly and my eyes opened wider than saucers. I looked around with my beating wildly trying to find the cause of the . My young professor was looking at me with a boyish smile on his face. He had dropped the textbooks he was carrying onto his desk. “Good morning!”, he said still . “I am glad to see everyone is . Now let’s get started. ”
For the next hour I wasn’t sleepy at all. It wasn’t from the of my professor’s textbook alarm clock either. It was from the fascinating discussion he led. With knowledge and good he made the material come . His insight was full of both wisdom and loving-kindness. And the enthusiasm and joy that he with were contagious(有感染力的). I the classroom not only wide awake, but a little and a little better as well.
I learned something far more important than not in class that day too. I learned that if you are going to do something in this life,do it well,do it with . What a wonderful place this would be if all of us did our work joyously and well. Don’t sleepwalk your way through then. Wake up! Let your love fill your work. Life is too not to live it well.

The afternoon on December 25 in the waiting room , I was the nurse on duty . When I felt sad about having to_36_on Christmas Day , a woman and four small children showed up at my desk .
“ Are you all sick ?” I asked. “ Yes,” the woman said _37_and lowered her head. But when it came to telling me about their_38_ ,things got a little surprising. They all seemed to be well and there was nothing_39_ with their body.
Why did they tell a _40_that they were all sick? I did not say anything but _41_ that it might be a little time before a doctor could_42_ them . The mother said,“Take your time.We can_43_here. It’s so warm.” When she finished the register chart , I noticed she didn’t write down their address----were they _44_?
I looked at the _45_around the Christmas tree. The children were excited and _46_to be healthy. The littlest one was pointing at the Christmas tree and say something to the mother. Then I was sure that they came here not because of _47_but only for warmth.
I went back to the nurses’ station and _48_ the homeless family. The nurses, _49_ about working on Christmas Day like me, turned to feel sorry for the family and decided to _50_.
We bought delicious food in the hospital restaurant and_51_a big dinner for our guests. We needed _52_. So we put apples in a basket and collected candies and clothes. Just as we were seriously prepared to meet the physical needs of the _53_, our team worked to meet the needs of a family who just wanted to be _54_on Christmas Day.
Later, as the family was to _55 _, the youngest child ran to me and said,“Thank you very much. Good bye.’A choose B work C shop D clean

Just recently I had been wondering if there was much point in doing little acts of kindness. So often they get 36 , and occasionally they come back to bite you!
Then, just last week, after a long travel, I found myself 37 at a bus station. The bus was four hours late! So, I guess I wasn’t in a good 38 .
That’s when a woman asked me if I had any spare 39 to help her get a bus ticket.
“Oh, sure,” I said sarcastically (挖苦地). “How much would you like?”
As I spoke, I mentally kicked myself for my 40 and reached into my bag for some money. As I handed her five dollars, I heard low sounds from her stomach because of real 41 .
I reached back into my bag and brought out a 42 I had bought earlier. I handed it to her with a(n) 43 that I hoped would make up for my earlier tone of voice. Getting a 44 look at her now, I realized she was extremely tired, like she had had several months of 45 days!
As she took the food, a look of 46 washed over her. In return, she tried to give me a Milwaukee bus ticket! I don’t live in Milwaukee and the ticket will probably 47 be used, but I took it.
A few minutes later she came back over, apologized, and told me she was still 48 of five dollars. I took some singles out of my bag and slipped a twenty in there as well. 49 , the voice in my head told me I was being a fool.
Five minutes later she came back again and tried to 50 my twenty. When I said it was for her so she could get something else to 51 , and that I was completely serious and I wasn’t taking it 52 , she started crying and hugged me.
From now on, when I wonder if it is 53 trying to help someone, I will remember that woman. Maybe I am really making a 54 for someone. So, sure, sometimes my efforts might not be noticed, and sometimes they might come back to bite me, but they might actually 55 another human being!

How often do you change your hairstyle or ask for new dresses? You may be 16 to follow trends(潮流)in Western countries, but young people in the United States don’t care as much about 17 as you do.
A recent survey among high school 18in China, Japan, South Korea and the US found that 19 teenagers care more about their appearance than young people in the US.
This survey was held in 156 high schools in the four countries. More than 7,000 teenagers were 20 about their views on life and the world. South Koreans, at 83 per cent, cared most about their looks. They were 21 by the Chinese and Japanese, while US students showed the least interest in fashion at only 33 per cent.
“The different results show 22 of cultural background,” said Sun Yunxiao from the China Youth and Children Research Centre. He explained that in the US there are many different 23 of beauty, so teens are more 24 to be confident about their appearance.
US teenagers’ high self-confidence is displayed in the 25 . About 85 per cent are happy with themselves. The percentage of self-confident Chinese students stands at only 30 per cent.
What’s 26 , US students showed more individuality, with 88 per cent 27 that “people should follow their own interests rather than 28 of others”. This is much 29 than South Korea’s 69 per cent, China’s 49 and Japan’s 48.
Japanese students, at 52 per cent, are most dissatisfied with modern society. Chinese and Koreans follow at second and 30 most dissatisfied.
“ 31 to the survey, Chinese students are happy and disciplined. They have a strong wish to make a difference. 32 Chinese students need to be more independent and learn how to relax,” said Sun.
The students have different 33 backgrounds. But home and places where friends gather are the favorite places all teens seek happiness.
Exams and worries about life after graduation cause much 34 among most of the teens 35 for the survey.
