Climate change to make downpours more violent: expert NICKY PHILLIPS 2:55pm If you’re sick of the heavy rain, you’d better get used to it. The downpours and flash flooding Sydney experienced over the past few days are going to become more frequent, the expert says.

IPCC warns climate will worsen, harming Australia’s economy TOM  Australia’s billion-dollar mining, farming and tourism all face threats as worsening global warming causes more dangerous and extreme weather, the world’s leading climate science warns.

D

The study by scientists at Germany’s Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel examined five possible methods of climate engineering as a means of heading off the worst influences of global warming, along with widespread tree plantings of the deserts, and the study examined three methods involving the ocean.
The report, to be given later this month by the IPCC and obtained by The Independent in Britain, says that food security will increasingly be threatened, with crop output to drop by as much as 2 percent per decade for the rest of the century. Demand, though, is on course to rise 14 per cent per decade until the year of 2050.
One in eight global deaths were linked with air pollution, making it “the world’s largest single environmental health risk”, the WHO said. Nearly six million of the deaths had been in South East Asia and the WHO’s Western Pacific area, about 3.3 million died as a result of indoor air pollution and 2.6 million outdoors, it found.
As the atmosphere heats up because of climate change, more rain in Sydney will most likely cause disaster with traffic and public transport and may increase the number of people  injured or killed in flash floods, such as the man who drowned after being swept in to a storm water drain at Lucas Heights on Monday, said Nicky Phillips.
A five-year assessment by IPCC details the global influence because of the climate change, including the displacement of hundreds of millions of people, reduced crop output and increased the loss of millions of dollars of the economy, which harms Australia’s economy in many industries very seriously.

C. Do what you should do
D. Get useful information and advice
E. Look for someone to guide you
F. Keep it in mind: work hard
___________
Keep in mind that those who play a lot and hard can loose but those who play smart will always win the day. These tips when employed well will be your tickets to the top. The first thing you need to do is look at your performance. Are you doing what you are supposed to be doing? When you know what is expected, you will acquire a momentum that will lead you to the right direction. Otherwise, there is no need to do yourself and others when you are not delivering the right results.
___________
The other tip that will make you stand out from the rest is hard work. You need to do extra and ask for more. The workload might be overwhelming but promotion only comes to those who are excellent or do things that are out of the ordinary or beyond expectation. You must employ extreme dedication to make sure that even as you ask for more, you do not compromise on the quality of work you deliver.
___________
Another tip for promotion(晋升) is that the workplace is to have a presence. You must be seen at work not just by your colleagues(同事) but by leaders in your line of work. Take advantage of every chance to interact and know that people on top keep a keen eye looking out for those who stand out.
___________
Do not be shy to accept new skills and look for more. Promotions only come to those who know that this is a dynamic world that smiles on those who are willing to use new skills. Devote yourself to doing things that are considered extra and do not be afraid of this. This will go a long way in making you the person for consideration when it comes to promotions in the workplace.
___________
Another tip is to get information first hand from those who are on top. Talk to those who have been promoted in your organizations and seek advice. Remember, you do not have to learn through what they say but can learn through their character and how they do their stuff. Action will speak louder than words. However, you need to be aware that you are doing this to make yourself important and not to become another person. Often times, many workers seeking promotion will pretend to be something they are not.

In many parts of the world, cars play an important role in daily life and many societies would not exist without them. But this is the prediction made by a team of transport researchers who are taken seriously, not only by government but also by car manufacturers.
The Human Science and Advanced Technology Institute at Loughborough in the UK is part of an international research program. That will mean much saving, no accidents and better use of roads. The super-intelligent car in the future will drive itself. Instead, we will have a choice of cars and change them as frequently as we change our clothing.
According to Dr. David Davis, who leads the research team, these predictions are based on the rising cost of the car culture, which had blocked up our cities, polluted our air, and caused more deaths than both world wars put together.
Davis says, cars will be fitted with some intelligent devices(装置) to regulate(调节) the distance between one car and another. computers are much safer drivers than people, so cars in a road train will be able to drive much closer together than cars driven by people.
By 2010, Dr. David Davis believes, car technology will give motorists a clear view of the road, whatever the weather conditions, by projecting an image of the road ahead on to the car’s windscreen. Cars will be connected by an electronic tow bar to the car in front to form “road-trains”. “The front vehicle in such a train burns the normal amount.”says Davis. “but all the others in the train would burn about ten percent of the normal amount, and so produce about ten percent of the pollution.”

A.The team there believes that by 2030 all cars will be computerized.
B.They believe that cars will become more important in 20 years.
C.And it will not be owned by one individual.
D.And by 2030, cars will travel in line, linked to each other electronically.

E.So the idea that in 20 years’ time, no one will own cars may be hard to believe.
F.Every driver will use less fuel in the car he owns.
G.The car will automatically speed up, or slow down, to match the speed of the car in front.
