Jack Brown, a office worker, lives in Washington. He inherited(继承) a million dollar when he was 23 years old. Because his college friends were looking for their jobs, he didn’t have to. But he was happy at all. Jack decided to live a simply life like everyone else. He gave $ 10,000 of their money to a charity to help poor children live a better life. Today he is 36. He still wears cheap shoes and clothes and drive a small car, but he is very happy. Up to now Jack helped some children from poor countries all over the world, by sent them each $ 200 a month. His money has been used as for the children’s study, food, medicine and clothing.
Mistakes are common in our life. But attitudes on them may make a difference. I still remember how my spoken English improved. At the beginning, I always kept silently in the oral class to avoid to making mistakes. Before long my teacher knew about my situation. He encouraged me to speak out that I wanted to speak. Whenever I made mistakes and felt discouraging, my teacher and classmates will help me find out how I could avoid it in the future. Practice makes perfect. With time went by, I built up my confidences, and now I can talk fluently in English. Just as saying goes, mistakes are where success lies. We just need to learn a lesson from the mistakes.

Dear Grandpa,
How are you those days? I have been missing you very much after I went to college a year ago. Whenever I think of the old days, I feel very happily. You told me the name of different plants and their characteristics. Gradually, I became interesting in biology and chose to learn biology when I entered into the college. Travelled abroad, you should follow the customs of the country where you are visiting. When you invited, it is good manners to refuse or accept the invitation, either by writing nor by telephoning. If you will go to the party, it is polite to arrive on time. It is good manners to shake hand with your host. You can bring a present if you like, possible a bottle of wine, a box of chocolates and some flowers. However, it was not bad manners to take nothing. It is not polite to stay too late before the other guests have gone. Also, it is suggested to write or telephone a day or two late to thank your host.

One day I was on my way to home. When I was around the corner of street, I came across one of my friend Mary. We hadn’t seen each other for three years.
