Want to travel as cheaply as possible while enjoying as many beautiful places as you like?
Backpacking is the way. As the most popular traveling choice among young western people, backpacking allows you to travel at your own free will. Carrying a tent, a sleeping bag and clothes, backpackers(背包客) also need to pack a spirit that will help them deal with many challenges.
It is exciting to put our ability to test and challenge ourselves with the difficulties we might meet with. So, backpacking is something that almost all young people want to try.
The rich might stay in expensive hotels where everything is provided. But backpackers carry everything in a large bag and depend on themselves to travel through unknown places.
To travel with as little money as possible, they stay in cheap hotels, or in schools and universities, and they even sleep in railway stations, in tents, or under bridges.
Young people in Europe often travel around by train. Now, with plane tickets dropping in price, more are traveling to countries far away. And some just travel within their own countries.
But no matter where a backpacker travels, planning in advance(提前) is important if he or she wants to enjoy the trip.
Clothing
In summer, light, waterproof (防水的) clothes are best. Backpackers must remember to travel lightly and not pack too many clothes.
Medicine
There are many medicines especially for summer, such as those for sunstroke (中暑). Others are useful in every season, such as those for common colds.
Cards
Three types of cards are valuable for backpackers: student Identity Card, personal ID and a credit card.
A student ID card can be helpful for saving money. It often gets train tickets and entrance tickets at cheaper prices in many western countries.
Personal ID cards can not only get you out of trouble with local police, but also prove useful in all kinds of other situations.
Carrying a credit card can be a safer way than carrying money, as cash can easily get lost, stolen or wet.
Travelers in a foreign country must always take care of their passports.

Making friends might seem to come easy for some persons, but it’s maybe very hard for most persons. No matter how many friends you might already have, it is always a good idea to make new friends.
Being shy keeps a lot of people from making friends. Also, making friends might need a person to step outside of their comfortable places, which are hard for a lot of people, whether they are shy or not. However, overcoming the shyness to step out of your box is an important step in making friends.
There are lots of ways to meet new friends. First of all, remember that a good friendship is based on interests, so if you are ready to make friends, start to join clubs or go places where you have interest. For instance, if you like to play sports, join a sports team or after school sports club. If you have interests in music or writing, join clubs or organizations that you are interested in. When you see someone in a place like that, and you think that they look nice, it is always a good idea to go up to them and introduce yourself and ask interesting questions so that you can start a conversation. Don't put too much pressure on yourself, and remember that friendships don't always happen quickly.
Some friendships happen right away, and you'll be able to tell if someone will be a great friend right after you meet them. Some friendships take a long time to develop. Anyway, the friends that you meet are going to be worth it. If a friendship develops quickly, it doesn't mean that it is extra valuable, and if a friendship takes a long time to develop, it doesn't mean that it isn't worth it because it's too hard.
Making friends might be a bit difficult for you, and the friends you will make may not look anything like you. However, even though it might be scary to start conversations, you are worth doing it. It was a dark and stormy night. I was about to go to bed when I heard a tapping sound on my window. “Who’s there?” I shouted. Suddenly there was a flash of lighting; I saw a face at the window. It looked like an alien that I have seen on the television show.
I felt very scared. I ran to my bed and pulled my blanket(毛毯) over my head. I started to shout for my parents but there was no reply. Then I remembered that they were at a dress party.
After a while my head showed up out of my blanket but it was too dark to see anything. Then I heard footsteps. They were getting louder and louder. It was dark but I knew the way to drawer where I kept my camera. I ran there and took out my camera and started to take pictures in the direction of the window. Soon the footsteps died off, maybe because of my taking picture.
The grandfather clock struck…It was 12 midnight. I went back to my bed and tried to sleep. But I couldn’t sleep. I felt too frightened. I sat up; my mind was full of thoughts. Time passed, one o’clock, two o’clock, ... Finally, I fell asleep.
I woke up only after eight and decided to find out the truth. I found some footprints outside my bedroom window. I measured them with a tape(卷尺) and found them to be exactly the same size as my father’s shoes. The footprints ended at the door of my house. I then went to town to get the film developed(洗胶片).
