Want to travel as cheaply as possible while enjoying as many beautiful places as you like?
Backpacking is the way. As the most popular traveling choice among young western people, backpacking allows you to travel at your own free will. Carrying a tent, a sleeping bag and clothes, backpackers(背包客) also need to pack a spirit that will help them deal with many challenges.
It is exciting to put our ability to test and challenge ourselves with the difficulties we might meet with. So, backpacking is something that almost all young people want to try.
The rich might stay in expensive hotels where everything is provided. But backpackers carry everything in a large bag and depend on themselves to travel through unknown places.
To travel with as little money as possible, they stay in cheap hotels, or in schools and universities, and they even sleep in railway stations, in tents, or under bridges.
Young people in Europe often travel around by train. Now, with plane tickets dropping in price, more are traveling to countries far away. And some just travel within their own countries.
But no matter where a backpacker travels, planning in advance(提前) is important if he or she wants to enjoy the trip.
Clothing
In summer, light, waterproof (防水的) clothes are best. Backpackers must remember to travel lightly and not pack too many clothes.
Medicine
There are many medicines especially for summer, such as those for sunstroke (中暑). Others are useful in every season, such as those for common colds.
Cards
Three types of cards are valuable for backpackers: student Identity Card, personal ID and a credit card.
A student ID card can be helpful for saving money. It often gets train tickets and entrance tickets at cheaper prices in many western countries.
Personal ID cards can not only get you out of trouble with local police, but also prove useful in all kinds of other situations.
Carrying a credit card can be a safer way than carrying money, as cash can easily get lost, stolen or wet.
Travelers in a foreign country must always take care of their passports.

![]() I like traveling and I have traveled a lot around China. During the trip, I often find that a number of Chinese don’t have good public manners(举止). They always loudly on the phone and smoke everywhere. The worst is that they often break the rules in public. For example, when I traveled in HongKong in January this year, I saw a kid eating noodles on the underground , which is against the rules. However, the kid’s mother didn’t think he did wrong. Can you believe it? Let’s improve our public manners. (Mike, Shenzhen) |
![]() I am a 14-year-old boy from a poor village in Fuyang, Anhui Province. Like many other left-behind children(留守儿童)in China, l live with my grandparents now. my father went to work inn Shanghai several years ago. Last year, my mother went there to care for him because his health is not as good as before. They tell me to listen to my grandparents and call me about twice a month to ask about my study. I really miss my parents and I hope I can afford to go to school in Shanghai. I think every child needs parents’ love and care. (Wu Peigen, Anhui Province) |

Arctic fox(北极狐) is a kind of small fox that lives in the Arctic. It grows about 50 centimeters long, not including its tail, 30 centimeters tall and weighs from 3 to 7 kilos.
The Arctic foxes are white or blue in color. The white ones are white in winter, but grey-brown in summer. The blue ones are blue-grey all year round. The Arctic foxes have long, thick hair that is called fur. And the long fur covers their whole bodies, including both their cat eyes and rabbit feet, to keep them warm. in the low temperature in the Arctic.
The Arctic foxes feed mainly on birds, birds’ eggs and other small animals. Teamwork is the way they look for food, and they don’t like to do that alone.
Baby Arctic foxes are very lovely. They don’t open their eyes until a week after their birth. For the first half of the year, their parents offer them food. They begin to look for food on their own when they are about six months old. The next year they can live alone.
Today, the number of the Arctic foxes is becoming smaller and smaller, because people kill them for their fur to make beautiful coats for money. Something must be done to protect the Arctic foxes. Not all the Arctic foxes change their colors in different seasons.
The Arctic foxes have rabbit eyes and cat feet.
Baby Arctic foxes are born with their eyes open.
Birds, birds’ eggs and other small animals are the main food for the Arctic foxes.
