Late last night, or early this morning, something terrible happened in East Town. Mr Raymond Johnson has lived in East Town and has worked there as a manager for many years. He is forty-two years old, unmarried, and he lives in a big wooden house on Moonlight Road. The people of East Town know Mr Johnson as an unusual man. He does not often leave his house, but his business has made him very rich. Last night, at about midnight, a man who was out walking saw that one of Mr Johnson’s rooms was on fire. He immediately called the fire station, and the firemen arrived soon after. It took them half an hour to put out the fire. The firemen were surprised that Mr Johnson did not come out of the house, and two of them went inside to look for him. But Mr Johnson was not in the house. In the bedroom the two men found an open safe(保险箱), which was empty. There were papers on the floor. Mr Johnson’s bedroom windows on the ground floor of the house were open. The firemen also found a set of keys in the room. The police then found out that the keys belonged to Mr Paul White, who visited Mr Johnson at his home yesterday evening. If you watch the sky for about an hour after the sun goes down , you may see some " moving stars". But they're not really stars. They're man—made satellites(人造卫星). And the biggest of all is the International Space Station(ISS). From May to July is the best season to watch the ISS flying over the earth. And people can see it with their eyes.
The ISS is the biggest satellite and scientists want to live on it. They think that the best way to learn more about space is to live there.
When the space station is finished , it will be like a city in space. People will stay and study there with many of the things they have at home. Laboratories, living rooms and power stations are being built. The ISS is the most expensive space program. Billions of dollars are being spent on it every year.
Scientists hope that the ISS will be a stepping stone for future space exploration(探索). "The ISS will help us understand the human body better, explore space and study the earth. It can help us make life on the earth better, " said Kathryn Clark , an ISS scientist.
Sixteen countries are part of the program: the US, Russia, Canada, Japan, Brazil and 11 European countries. China isn't an ISS country , but it has helped with some of the experiments. In 2003 , China sent some rice up to the ISS to find out what space would do to it.

It all started a year before when my daughter Suzanne and I were shopping in Sydney. In the window of a sports shop I noticed a photo of a group of young people climbing the rock along a canyon(峡谷). "That's what I'm going to do next year," I said. Suzanne laughed. "Sure, Mom! Don't forget you're 65 years old. "
I didn't feel l was that age! I joined a club and trained weekly. Each day I felt my physical energy increase and, along with it, my confidence. Then Suzanne pointed out, "It's good, but how can you clear away the fear of height?" "I've got it worked out, " I replied bravely. "We're going to the indoor climbing center. "
While I was going up the high wall, I was afraid to look down as if a terrible animal was after me. Some time later, as I reached the ground, I sat down heavily on the floor. Later that night, as I lay in bed, I encouraged myself, "You've climbed the wall! You'll certainly make it! "
We set off with our packages to the Grand Canyon. When we reached it, I found the canyon was a huge black hole—far deeper than I had imagined. As the guide clipped(夹住) me onto the rope, my heart beat double-time and I wondered why I had got myself into this. Time lost all meaning as I pushed my body forward. Only the strong rope kept me from losing hope. I began to think it would never end when everyone had stopped. "This is as far as we go, and we can climb out after a few steps, " the guide said finally. Two and a half hours later, we returned to the car park at last. I began to shake, one hard step after another.
Getting onto the bus, I fell into the seat I had left so confidently a lifetime before. Then, while I was in the seat catching my breath, a feeling of happiness spread through me. I had done it, at the age of 66.

Internet is educational. Many people think children should be allowed to surf the Internet as they wish. In this way, they can look through different subjects on different kinds of websites according to their own interest. But in my opinion, children should always be watched while surfing the internet.
Many websites have information and pictures that children should not see. There are many things that children don’t understand. All of these may have some bad influence on children’s development. Also, (1)让孩子们单独聊天是危险的。Many parents tell their children not to talk to strangers on the street, so they should be careful of whom their children talk to on the Internet, too. What’s more, sitting in front of a computer for a long time isn’t good for children’s eyes, so parents should monitor(监视)the time that children spend on the Internet.
(2) In a word, children should be kept away from anything that could be bad for them. I strongly believe that it is necessary for parents to watch their children when they use the Internet.
Is the Internet educational all the time?
