An eight-year-old child heard her parents talking about her little brother. She knew that his little brother was very ill and they had no money. Only a very expensive operation(昂贵的手术) could save(挽救)him now.
When she heard her father say to her mother, “Only a miracle can save him now,” the little girl went to her bedroom and took her money and counted it carefully.
She ran to a drugstore (药店) with the money in her hand.
“And what do you want?” asked the man. “It’s for my little brother,” the girl answered. “He’s really, really ill and I want to buy a miracle.” “say it again?” said the man.
“My brother Andrew has something wrong with his head and my father says only a miracle can save him. So how much is a miracle ?” “We don’t have a miracle here, child. I’m sorry,” the man said with a smile.
“Listen, if it isn’t enough, I can try and get some more. Just tell me how much it is”
Another man heard it and asked, “What kind of a miracle does your brother need?”
“I don’t know,” she answered .“He’s really sick and my mother says he needs an operation. But my father has no money for it, so I brought all my money.”
“How much do you have?” asked the man. “$ 1.11, but I can try and get some more,” she answered.
“Well, you are lucky,” smiled the man. “$ 1.11 of a miracle for little brothers.”
He held the girl’s hand and said, “Take me to your home. I want to see your brother and meet your parents. Maybe I have the kind of miracle you need.”
That man was Dr. Carlton Armstrong, a famous doctor. The operation was successful and Andrew got back home again soon.

There are many things you can do to improve your memory. Among them are many kinds of useful ways as well as taking special care of your health.
It is important that you make yourself excited to make your memory more active. You can do this by doing some new activities and by changing your daily habits. Learning a new skill helps your brain(大脑)to develop. When trying to remember something, you should pay special attention to the most important things about it. Do not allow other thoughts to enter your mind because this will reduce your chances of making right memories.
An excellent way to help memory is to connect information with pictures. Try to see the pictures in your mind. Taking notes and keeping a diary will also be helpful.
Healthy food and plenty of vitamins are necessary for your memory to work well. Drinking a lot of water also helps keep your memory. You must allow your brain to have enough sleep and rest. When you are asleep, your brain stores memory. Not enough sleep can cause problems with storing information. And being tired will also stop you from being able to think clearly and well.
In order to keep your mind on your work, you must be free from worry. Generally, keeping fit and normal health checks are both important as well — not just for improving your memory.

As young students ,you have many dreams. These dreams can be very big ,such as winning the Nobel Prize;they can also be small, such as becoming one of the best students in your class.
Once you find a dream, what do you do with it? Do you ever try to make your dream real?
Andrew Matews, an Australian writer ,tells us that making your dreams real is life’s biggest challenge. You may think you’re not very good at some school subjects, or that it’s impossible for you to become a writer. Those kinds of ideas stop you from realizing your dream.
In fact, everyone can realize his dream. The first thing you must do is to remember what your dream is. Don’t let it leave your heart. Keep telling yourself what you want every day and then your dream will come true faster. You should know that a big dream is, in fact, made up of many small dreams.
You must also never give up your dream. There will be difficulties on the road to your dreams. But the biggest difficulty comes from you. You need to decide what is the most important. Studying instead of watching TV will help you to get better exam results, while saving five yuan instead of buying an ice cream means you can buy a new book.
As you get closer to your dream, it may change a little. This is good as you have the chance to learn something more useful and find new hobbies. The biggest difficulty on the road to your dreams comes from_____________.

Are two holidays not enough? Do you dream of three, or even four? (61)这不再是梦想! Last month, the State Council(国务院) encouraged primary and high schools to give students a spring or autumn break without changing the total number of student vacation days.
Students in China currently only have long holidays in two seasons —summer and winter. These holidays are usually 10 to 12 weeks in total.“If we had spring and autumn breaks, (62)I would have time to taste all four seasons instead of burying (埋) myself in my studies,”Gao Yiran, a 15-year-old boy told China Daily. Seasonal holidays during autumn and spring may be something new in China, but not in other countries.
In the US, students usually have three holidays. Summer holiday is the longest one, and runs from mid-June until early September. Summer camp is one of kids’ favorite places to go to, where they can make new friends and try some new activities. Winter holiday starts from mid-December and ends in early January. Most kids and their parents go to spend time together over the Christmas period. Spring break comes in mid- March and (63) it is usually a 10-day holiday.
Schools in Japan start in April, as most people think that spring is the perfect time for new things. For school children ,summer holiday lasts from July 20 to August 31. Most kids are busy with club activities including sports and dancing. Spring break starts at the end of March and continues till early April. It is a good chance for a short family trip around the city.
