Without proper planning, tourism(旅游业) can cause problem. For example, too many tourists can make public places crowded, which are also enjoyed by the local people. If tourists cause too much traffic, the local people will feel unhappy. They begin to dislike tourists and treat them impolitely. But they forget how much tourism can help the local economy(经济).It is important to think about how tourism affects the local people. The local customs and beauty should be kept to attract the tourists by the local government. The local government should also care about the health and happiness of local people when developing tourism.

Too much tourism can be a problem. If tourism grows too quickly, people can leave other jobs to work in the tourism industry because they can make more money there. As a result, other parts of the local economy can become worse.

On the other hand,if there is not enough tourism, people can lost jobs, and businesses can also lost money. It coats much money to build large hotels, airports, firstclass roads, and other support facilities(设施) needed by tourist attractions. For example, each room of the firstclass tourism hotel usually coats about 50thousand dollars. If the rooms of the hotel aren't used most of the time, the owner of the hotel will lose money.

Building a hotel is just a beginning. There must be many support facilities as well, including roads to get to the hotel, electricity and so on.All of these support facilities cost money. If these facilities are not used because there are not enough tourists, jobs and money are lost.

This is a typical(典型的) day for Yang Jinlong.

At 9 a. m. , he drives to primary schools and middle schools in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, to teach students about Shaanxi kuaiban. It is a traditional Chinese form of storytelling to the rhythm(节奏) of bamboo clappers(响板), which the art form is named after. Sometimes, he helps students prepare for competitions. Usually, his classes run until about 6. p.m. , and then he returns home to prepare classes for the next day.

On June 10, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced 325 national intangible cultural heritage(非物质文化遗产) items in Beijing, increasing the list to 1, 557 items. Shaanxi kuaiban, which appeared during the late Qing Dynasty, has been included. The art form has been introduced to local schools as part of their art education.

Yang has been teaching young people the art form since 2003 after graduating from the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts in Beijing. He studied quyi there. Quyi is general term for Chinese folk art forms, including storytelling, crosstalk and clapper talk.

“Art education is important for students in China. Just as many students learn to play Western musical instruments like the piano and violin, there are many people learning traditional Chinese folk arts, including Shaanxi kuaiban, which I’ll work for my whole life,” he said.

Kuaiban is popular in northern China, including Beijing and Tianjin. According to Yang, Shaanxi kuaiban was influenced by the art of different areas. The art form can be played by a group of players or only one. With one or two pairs of kuaiban of different sizes in hand, the players speak in the local dialect(方言) while telling stories, which are usually about heroes. The player tells stories while playing kuaiban, and it’s easy for the watchers to remember the stories since all the lines rhym.

Thanks to artists like Yang, this traditional Chinese form of storytelling is passed on and stays alive in our country.

It is easy to believe that the daily life of a plant is simple and boring. They seem to just stand there and sunbathe. In fact, plants are always busy doing many things. Measuring(估量)light is one of them. This activity helps plants to plan better for the future.

To start with, we should know how plants feel the light. In fact, there are some special proteins(蛋白质) in their cell(细胞). Once receiving light, they will call on other cells to produce, resulting in the growth towards the light.

Then what can plants get from measuring the changes in the amount(量)of daylight? This helps them to tell what time of the year it is. If a plant is beginning to get more daylight, it knows it’s spring. Because of this, it may then start producing flowers.

If the amount of daylight starts to get low, the plant knows that autumn is coming. It may start to store “food” for its growth. For example, the potato plant will make tubers(块茎)—the potatoes that we eat.

Plants record not only the amount of daylight they receive, but also the quality(质量) of light. Some forms of light can help plants grow better. Direct sunlight, for example, works better than light that is being separated through the leaves of other plants. A plant can’t get the right form of light when it is prevented from getting light by other plants. It may then begin to grow taller or produce larger leaves in order to get more sunlight.

One day, when I started rolling the clay (黏土) into a long snake, as my teacher told me, the boy next to me was still hitting his clay loudly. I said, “Hey, our teacher asks us to make a snake now.” He paid no attention and continued. Worried he wouldn’t have time to make his snake, I rolled out an extra (额外的) one. “Here,” I said. “You can have this if you like.”

“Do you always tell everyone what to do?” he shouted.

What did I do to make him angry at me?

The next class, I found a different seat. But the boy was surprisingly quiet during class. Walking past him, I noticed him making a cool box. He saw me looking at him and glared. “Are you planning to tell me how to do this, too?” I felt my face get hot and I almost thought I would cry.

When I arrived at the art center for the next class, I happened to hear the talk between that boy and his mother. It turned out his father was leaving them and his mother just wanted him to stay with his grandma for a while.

It seemed everyone was to tell him what to do! No wonder he didn’t want me to tell him what to do!
