Journalism — by Dr. E. Brandt
Journalism is a course for seniors, in which we will cover how to gather, write, and report the news. We will discuss how information is, or can be, organized. This course also aims to develop communication skills required of journalists.
C
A classic is a literary work that has stood the test of time. Generations of readers have turned to classics to discover that which is ever-lasting. Through both the works themselves and the people they mirror, we may better be able to see ourselves. In this course, we will read works in both British and American literature(文学). We will write reviews of what we read.

Technical Writing — by Mr. J. Allen
What is technical writing? It is the course devoted to improving your communication skills in, for , and through technology. Activities for this course will help you develop communication skills that are necessary for writers and speakers working with technology or in business.

Non-fiction — by Dr. M. Tim
The course is a study of non-fiction through reading many different types of non-fiction. The course will also be about the possible changes in journalistic reporting and the sharing of personal stories of various people on various topics such as travel and adventure. We will examine some of the best writing in the world and deal with the techniques used in this text type.

World Literature — by Mrs. A. McClellan
World Literature examines the common people found in quality Literature worldwide, from Europe to America, from Asia to Africa, and introduces a variety of cultural background at different points in history. In these worlds, we find not only what is unique to each culture, but what is universal. We are also able to tell what makes for a good story, no matter from where or whom the story springs.
46.Mike spent his childhood mostly in his father’ s study, where he read novels by British and American writers. Next term he will become a senior student. He thinks it’ s time that he read more of their works and learned to write about them.
47.Joseph is good at the language arts, and in his spare time he likes to write short stories. It is his wish that his stories would be printed in local newspapers. So he is thinking of taking a course to develop his writing skills, such as wording and paragraph organization.
48.A lively and caring girl, Anna takes an active part in social activities. She is trying to write reports for newspapers about what she sees and hears But few of them are accepted because of poor organization of information. She feels the need to improve her writing and communication skills next term.

What subjects and issues are you certain about? 3To make flowers grow? To create world peace? Then share your story with the world!

What makes you angry? Share how you would change teh world for the better if you could.
5Speak about what catches your attention at the moment. Don’t have enough time in the day for all your work? Give a speech on that topic! It will perhaps help you solve that problem.

It doesn't come as a surprise to you to realize that it makes no difference what you read or study if you can't remember it.You just waste your valuable time.1One dependable aid that does help you remember what you study is to have a specific purpose or reason for reading.
Why does a clerk in a store go away when your reply to her offer to help is, "No, thank you.I'm just looking."? Both you and she know that if you aren't sure what you want, you are not likely to find it.But suppose you say instead, "Yes, thank you.I want a pair of sun glasses." She says, "Right this way, please."
__2_ If you choose a book, "just looking" for nothing in particular, you are likely to get just that—nothing.But if you do know what you want, you are almost sure to get it.Your reasons will vary; they will include reading or studying "to find out more about", "to understand the reasons for" and "to find out how".
__3__ Before you start to study, you say to yourself something like this, "I want to know why Stephen Vincent Benet happened to write about America".Because you know why you are reading or studying, you relate the information to your purpose and remember it better.
4At least two important processes go on at the same time.As you read, you take in ideas rapidly and accurately.But at the same time you express your own ideas to yourself as you react to what you read.You have a kind of mental conversation with the author.
This additional process of thinking about what you read includes evaluating it, relating it to what you already know, and using it for your own purposes.__5__ One part of critical reading, as you have discovered, is distinguishing between facts and opinions.Facts can be checked by evidence, Opinions are one's own personal reactions.Another part of critical reading is judging sources.Still another part is drawing accurate inferences.

After visiting Perth, we spent the day in the countryside. We sat down and had a rest near a path at the foot of a hill. It was quiet and we enjoyed ourselves. . When you take and take without giving back, you never feel fulfilled, so you are always searching for ways to fill the void in your life.
The way to create a healthy balance between giving and receiving is to know and then live by your values. I break values up into two groups which I call being and having values. __2__I suggest to my clients that they choose three being values that are willing to make a commitment to live by. An example of some being values are :kind, loving, generous, inspirational, peaceful, wise and even powerful. By acting on these values you give to others through your actions and you inspire others by being a positive role model. Mastering being these character traits becomes your life purpose.
__3__.These could be companionship, achievement, and support, being valued or financial security. This is what you receive. You take responsibility for filling your own needs by taking steps to create these feelings and conditions in your life.
When you make a commitment to live by your being values, it becomes easier to make conscious choices rather than reactionary ones. If your usual pattern is to talk about your problems, you could choose to think and act like a calm person. _4__.If your usual pattern is to worry, you could choose to act like a responsible or wise person. In other words, you would act like the person you choose to be ---this is the key to personal power.
When you choose to act on your values, you not only feel good about yourself, you reinforce your chosen beliefs. ___5___.
