Curiosity is an important characteristic of a genius(天才). You can’t find an intellectual giant who is not a curious person.
This is necessary if you are to have a curious mind. Some things you know and believe might be wrong, and you should be prepared to accept things you don’t know or you don’t quite agree on.
If you just accept the world as it is, you will certainly lose your “ curiosity”. Try to discover what is beneath(在…下面) the surfaces of things around you.
Ask questions from time to time. A sure way to discover what is beneath the surface is by
asking questions: What is that? Why does it make that way? How does it work? And so on.
See learning as something that is fun. If you see learning as a burden, it will just make the
burden heavier. But if you can find learning interesting, it will open another door.
Read different kinds of reading materials. Don’t spend too much time on just one
subject.  It will introduce you to other possibilities that may interest you.

A.Keep an open mind.
B.Try to look into the things.
C.Search for ideas to write about.
D.Discuss your ideas with other people.

E. So make an effort to enjoy the learning process.
F. Feed your mind with interesting facts about different subjects.
G. It is the simplest way for curious people to increase their knowledge.

根据短文内容,从下框的A—F选项中选出能概括每一段主题的最佳选项。选项中有一项为多余选项。
E

A. Don’t be afraid of risks.
B. Find ways to solve problems.
C. Learn from successful people.
D. Don’t give up easily.
E. Know the meaning of success.
F. Enjoy facing your failure.

You cannot have success if you don’t know what it means to you. Set clear goals and be realistic. Your standards should be specific or else you will spend your entire time chasing after a vague goal. For example, you want to be good at your job. However, this is not a specific goal. Instead, specify this goal as: “My goal is to only be late for work five times per year, at the most.” This is a specific goal that when achieved, give you a sense of satisfaction and completion, making you feel successful and confident.
Look around---who has the success that you envision(想象)for yourself? What are they doing? How do they come near a successful life? Become their students. Ask them for advice. Spend time around them, if you can. Learn from them. They will bring you much useful experience.
Successful people think big and act big. It can be scary to do, but if you don’t, then how will you ever be successful? Don’t wait for opportunities. Dig them out. Successful people make big investments (in their careers, in their business, in their education) and all investments involve some degree of risk. Study your risks, and be brave.
People who are successful like solving problems and answering questions. No matter where you are or what you are doing, look around and try to think of ways you can find, for example, what are people struggling with or complaining about? How can you make life easier for them in an effective way? Can you redesign or reorganize some aspects of the situation so that things can run more smoothly?
You should learn to persist. It is also the key factor to success. When asked about his 10,000 failed attempts to develop a storage battery, the prolific(多产的)American inventor Thomas Edison replied: “I have not failed; I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work. So, if your first attempt didn’t work, don’t quit and don’t give up.”

You will have a lot of reading to do in this grade this year. You can do more of it in less time if you learn to read rapidly.Perhaps you have been told about some habits which keep a person from reading fast and have been strongly asked to break those which you might have.
Check yourself by answering "yes" or "no" to these questions.
Do you move your lips (嘴唇) when reading silently?
Do you point to words with your finger as you read?

If you answer "yes" to any of these questions, start at once to break the habit. If you move your lips, hold your fingers over them, or hold a piece of paper between your lips while you are reading.
If you point to words, hold the two sides of your book, one side with your left hand, the other side with your right hand.If you move your head, place your chin (下巴)in one hand and hold your head still .
If you read no more than one or two three words at a time, you need to work very hard in learning to take in more words at each glance as your eyes travel across the lines of words.

A.Do you read without any sound?
B.Do you read one word at a time?
C.Do you still have any of these bad habits?
D.Do you move your head from side to side as you read?

E.Then you will have too much time to understand the words?
F.Then if your lips move, you will know it and can stop them.
G.Then you won't have a free finger to use in pointing while reading.

When a person does a certain thing again, he is impelled(迫使) by some unseen force to do the same thing repeatedly; thus a habit is formed. Once a habit is formed, it is difficult, and sometimes impossible, to get rid of. Children often form bad habits, some of which remain with them as long as they live. Older persons also form bad habits as long as they live. Older persons also form bad habits, and sometimes become ruined by them.
Many successful men say that much of their success has something to do with certain habits in early life, such as early rising, honesty and thoroughness.
Among the habits which children should not form are laziness, lying, stealing and so on. Unfortunately older persons often form habits which ought to have been avoided.

A.There are other habits which, when formed in early life, are of great help.
B.Whether good or not habit are, they are easy to get rid of.
C.We ought to keep from all these bad habits, and try to form such habits as will prove good for ourselves and others.
D.Habits, whether good or bad, are gradually formed.

E. It is very important for us to know why we should get used to good habits.
F. These are all easily formed habits.
G. It is therefore very important that we should pay great attention to the formation of habits.

Tips for Cooking on a Tight Schedule
From my experience, there are three main reasons why people don't cook more often: ability, money, and time. Money is a topic I'll save for another day. So today I want to give you some wisdom about how to make the most of the time you spend in the kitchen. Here are three tips for great cooking on a tight schedule:
1.Think ahead. The moments when I think cooking is a pain are when I'm already hungry and there's nothing ready to eat. So think ahead of the coming week. When will you have time to cook? Do you have the right materials already?
2. Make your time worth it. When you do find time to cook a meal, make the most of it and save yourself time later on. Are you making one loaf of bread? It takes around the same amount of time to make more of something. So save yourself the effort for a future meal.
3.This may surprise you, but one of the best tools for making cooking worth your time is experimentation. It gives you the chance to hit upon new ideas and recipes that can work well with your appetite (食欲) and schedule. The more you learn and the more you try, the more ability you have to take control of your food and your schedule.
Hopefully that gives you a good start. And don't let a busy schedule discourage you from making some great changes in the way you eat and live!

A.Try new things.
B.Ability is easily improved.
C.Make three or four instead.
D.Understand your food better.

E. Cooking is a burden for many people.
F. Let cooking and living simply be a joy rather than a burden.
G. A little time planning ahead can save a lot of work later on.

The Winner’s Guide to Success
How do successful people think? What helps them to make success? To find out the answers, an American scholar recently visited some of the most successful people in America.
Be responsible for yourself
Sometimes you may want to blame others for your failure to get ahead. You’re saying, “You have more control over my life than I do.”
Live life “on purpose”
Almost all successful people live life “on purpose”— they are doing what they believe they should and want to do. When you live your life on purpose, you’ll try your best to do your job or study as well as you can. You love what you do and you can find pleasure in what you do.
Write a plan
It is very difficult trying to get what you want without a good plan. A good plan is like a map to you. Without this “map”, you may waste your time, money and also your energy; while with the “map” you’ll enjoy the “trip” and get what you want in the shortest possible time.
Be willing to pay the price
Nothing great is easy to get. So you must be ready to work hard — even harder than you have ever done. If you are not willing to pay the price, you won’t get anything valuable.
Never give up
When you are doing something, you must tell yourself again and again: Giving up is worse than failure because failure can be the mother of success, but giving up means the death of hope.

Once an American writer was writing a novel. He could not have a good ending for his book until one night when he had a very good idea. He was so excited that he made a phone call to one of his best friends. “I’ve got a perfect idea,” he said, “I’ll put it down later and show it to you.” But he never did, because he died that night. His book was left without a perfect ending. So remember, do what you can right away. Never delay at all.

A.It is just like trying to drive through strange roads to a city far away.
B.It seems to us that everyone knows this. But it is easier said than done.
C.Some people achieve success much later in life because they fail to realize earlier the importance of hard work.
D.In fact, when you say someone or something outside of yourself is stopping you from making success, you’re giving away your own power.

E. Someone else’s opinion of you doesn’t have to become your reality.
F. Don’t delay
G. Here are some keys to success that they give.
