American English and British English are very different. Sometimes this difference is so big that the two seem like different languages!
Some words in British English mean things that are different in American English. For example a “raincoat” (American English) is called a “Mackintosh” in British English. But in America, a mackintosh is a kind of computer.
Most American sayings (谚语) mean nothing to the British. For example, Americans like to say, “Wake up and smell the coffee” which means “wake up and face reality(现实)”. But the British think it is silly-they do not drink coffee in the morning. Instead, most of them drink tea.
Of course, the two languages are the same in many ways. To “call” someone (American English) is to “ring” somebody in Britain. The two languages borrow from each other a lot. But for foreign students learning English, there can be many problems. After all, American English and British English have, over the years, become so different. Foreign students often learn British English, come to the USA, and cannot understand any American English! So you must ask yourself—where do I want to go in the future – America or England? If it is England, you should learn British English. But if you want to study in America, try learning as much true American English as possible. Watch American movies, listen to American songs, read books written in American English, and talk with an American accent (口音) — not a British one!
Some American English and British English are different in meanings.
“Mackintosh” is a kind of computer in England.
A lot of Englishmen like drinking coffee in the morning.
British English and American English borrow a lot from each other.
If you want to study in England, you’d better learn British English.

Some people make you feel comfortable when they are around. You spend an hour with them and feel as if you've known them half your life. These people have something in common. And after we learn about it, we can try to do it ourselves.
Here are several skills that good talkers have. If you use these skills, they will help you make friends with people quickly.
First of all, good talkers ask questions. Almost everyone will answer a question. One famous businessman said, "At business lunches, I always ask people what they did in the morning. It's a common question, but it will be helpful. " From there you can move on to other things, sometimes to really personal questions.
Second, after good talkers ask questions, they listen for the answer. They usually listen carefully so that they can tell what kind of person they are talking to.
Third, real listening means many things. First it means not to change the topic(话题)of conversation. If someone keeps talking about one topic, you can tell that he is really interested in it. Real listening also means not just listening to words, but to tones(腔调)of voice. If the voice sounds boring, it's time for you to change the topic.
Finally, good talkers know how to deal with the occasion(场合)of parting. If you're saying goodbye, you may give him a firm handshake and say, "I've really enjoyed meeting you." If you want to see that person again, don't keep it secret. Let people know how you feel, and they may walk away feeling as if they're known you half their life.
Can these skills help you make friends with people?
What question does the businessman always ask?
How should good talkers listen for the answer?
If the voice sounds boring, what should you do?
What's the passage mainly about?

How many things can you see in the night sky? A lot! On a clear night you might see the Moon, some planets, and thousands of shining stars.
You can see even more with the help of new inventions. You might see stars where before you only saw dark space. You might see that many stars look larger than others. You might see that some stars that look white are really red or blue. With bigger and bigger telescopes you can see more and more objects in the sky. You can find out more about those objects.
But scientists believe there are some things in the sky that we will never see. We won't see them with the biggest telescope in the world, on the clearest night of the year.
That's because they can't be seen. They're the mysterious(神秘的)dead stars called black holes.
You might find it hard to imagine that stars die. But stars do burn out and die after billions of years.
As a star burns, it gives off light and heat. But when the star burns out, it begins to die.
As the star cools, the outer parts of the star pull in toward the center. The star squashes into a smaller and smaller ball. If the star was very small, the star ends up as a cold, dark ball called a black dwarf(黑矮星). If the star was very big, it keeps squashing inward until it's packed together tighter(紧的)than anything in the universe.
Imagine if the Earth were squashed until it was the size of a tiny ball. That's how tightly this dead star, a black hole, is packed. What pulls the star in toward its center with such power? It's the same force(力量)that pulls you down when you jump—the force called gravity(重力). A black hole is so tightly packed that its gravity sucks(吸收)in everything—even light. The light from a black hole can never come back to your eyes. That's why you see nothing but blackness.
So the next time you look up into the night sky, remember: there's more in the sky! All over in the darkness are black holes—the great mystery of space.

From the passage we know a black hole is.

A.a huge hole in the universe
B.a group of stars packed together
C.a dead star that is packed tightly
D.complete silent darkness in space

When a star squashes it will.

A.turn into a ball B.suck in everything
C.get smaller and smaller D.become darker and darker

The passage is mainly about.

A.how stars burn out
B.what dead stars are
C.how we can see more stars
D.why stars give heat and light
