British people use “autumn” for “fall”, “film” for “movie”, “holiday” for “vacation”, “garden” for “yard”, etc.
There are more typical(典型的)expressions that you may not know. Here are Mr Bean’s examples.

“cheers” or “thanks” |
British people use “Cheers” much more often than “Thanks”. “Cheers” is often used by them in daily informal conversations for small favours(帮助), such as opening doors for others, lending somebody a pen, showing strangers ways,… |
Present Perfect Tense or Simple Past Tense |
It’s more common to hear the British say “Have you done your work?” than “Did you do your work?” They prefer present tense to simple past tense. |

I have been very lucky to make many trips to China. Though I have had some trouble with the language, I have never had a problem I couldn’t solve. As a native English speaker(土生土长的说英语的人),I can go almost everywhere in the world and find someone to communicate with. I never thought that someone who speaks only Chinese would have a lot of trouble in my country.
Recently, the King family that I had met in China moved to Canada. I met them at the airport. My wife and I made meals for them and showed them around where we live. Everything seemed to go smoothly for the first two days as we looked for a car for them, showed them the way to different stores and the nearest city, Victoria. Mr. and Mrs King had a two-year-old son and soon we became Nainai (grandmother) and Yeye (grandfather). We were having a good time but we didn’t realize Mr. King can’t speak English.
Luckily, Mrs. King can speak very good English. Many people with Chinese background live near us. In fact, none of them speak Chinese. Mr. King can’t even buy a mobile phone without his wife’s help. He can’t talk to me, of course. By the third day, he felt lonely and worried. And on the fourth day, we decided to take them to a large Chinese community.
Now, we often visit them and they visit us too. Sometimes Mrs. King would still like to live near us but Mr. King cannot. I feel bad because he seems very nice and smart but I can’t talk with him. It seems that neither of us will learn the other’s language because of our ages, maybe we will never have a friendly conversation. But we will think of each other as friends. The writer doesn’t have any trouble in travelling around the world possibly because _______.

One day I got in a taxi, and we left for the airport. We were driving in the right lane(车道)when, suddenly, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver stopped his car at once. The tire(轮胎) made a very loud noise, and at the very last moment our car stopped just one inch from the back of the other car.
I was frightened. But then I couldn’t believe what happened next. The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, turned his head and started yelling at us. I couldn’t believe it! But my taxi driver just smiled at the guy. So I asked, “Why did you just do that? This guy almost sent us to hospital.”
This is when my taxi driver taught my what I now call, “The Law of the Rubbush Truck(垃圾车法则).” He explained that many people are like rubbish trucks. They run around full of rubbish, full of anger and full of bad feelings. As their rubbish piles up, they look for a place to throw it away and sometimes they’ll throw it at you. Don’t take it personally. Just smile, wish them well, and move on. Don’t take their rubbish and spread it to other people at work, at home or on the streets.
Successful people never let rubbish trucks change their moods. Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so love those who love you and pray(祈祷)for those who don’t.Which of the following is NOT true according to the first paragraph?

My mom isn’t fancy like other moms. They wear fancy clothes and drive fancy cars. My mom wears her gardening clothes when she walks me to school.
When fancy moms laugh, their laughs sound soft and whispery. You can hear my mom’s laugh from down the hall. I show her how to laugh quietly and she practices. But before long she starts laughing even harder than before.
At the talent show,my mom cheers loudly,“Bravo, everyone!Bravo!”instead of clapping politely the way fancy moms do.
For our class hike(徒步旅行),parents are invited. At breakfast I go over my rules for Mom,“Please don’t whistle. Don’t laugh loudly. No clapping. And stay in line.”
The other moms show up wearing fancy jackets and sneakers. My mom wears cutoffs,a floppy straw hat,and her old hiking boots.
We hike along, all in a line. Soon Mom starts to whistle her hiking songs,She’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain.I shake my head at her. She stops and whispers,“Oops. Sorry,Jane.”
We keep hiking. Everything is perfect until…
Our teacher,Ms. Steele, stops and points,“A snake!”All the moms hold their kids hands and back up,except my mom.“Watch out!It might be poisonous(有毒的)!”Ms. Steele says.
The other moms shuttle back some more. However,my mom steps forward and says,“Hmm. Let’s see what kind it is. Nope,it’s not poisonous.”
I shut my eyes.I know what’s coming next. Mom makes a sudden attack.“Got it!”she says. The other moms scream, not sounding fancy at all.
Kids gather around as Mom examines the snake.“It’s OK to touch,”she says.
Everyone’s too scared, but I go first.“snakes aren’t slimy,”I tell them. Right away, others line up. A couple of the fancy moms come up to touch the snake’s tail.
Later,Ms. Steele tells us to draw our favorite part of the hike. After a while,I look around quickly. Everyone’s picture is of Mom and me with the snake.
As we hike back to the bus,I squeeze Mom’s hand.“I’m glad I didn’t tell you my don’t-catch-snakes rule.”She smiles. But soon, she’s whistling her hiking songs again!
I start to make her silent, then stop. Instead,I take a deep breath and sing out too. Everyone joins in,even the fancy moms. The word“fancy”in this passage is close to“ ”.
